Quinton Kirkland

1994 ~ 2017

Quinton Kirkland was born on June 30th 1994 in Elko, Nevada. He died by suicide on May 20th, 2017.

Quinton was born with a mischievous sense of adventure and independence. He came into this world with a smile on his face as wide as his imagination. Quin had a heart of gold. He loved others and had not an ounce of judgement for anyone. He was generous, kind, and he expressed his gratitude freely. His mind was bright and deep, a philosopher at heart, his brilliance and intelligence often remained cloaked by his quiet and easy going personality. Those who were close to him were amazed at his vast knowledge on a variety of topics. When he found something interesting he would research it until he understood it inside and out.

He loved botany, chemistry, neurobiology, and metaphysics. Quin explored life with curiosity and a sense of measured yet wild abandon. He was a storyteller. All his stories were first-hand accounts of his many adventures. Quin was the life of every family party. An impromptu sibling dance party erupted every time they were all together. Quin was an avid rock climber, something he took to as a Boy Scout. He was a lead climber and taught climbing lessons.

Quin moved to Oregon in 2016 to pursue his passion in medical botany. He had a green thumb and a gift for growing. Quin's sense of humor kept his family laughing, and laughing, and laughing. He loved spending time with his family and friends exploring caves, hiking, and enjoying the family ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming. We all wanted to be as strong-hearted, unique, and independent as Quin. He is on to bigger and brighter things.

Quinton was completely adored by his family and friends. He is survived by his parents Steven (Carol) Kirkland, and Colleen Heywood as well as his siblings, Katrina (Nicholas), Jessica (Stafford), Sarah (Alex), Joshua, Seth, and Hannah. He was deeply loved and admired by his nieces and nephews : Kamryn, Lilian, Mason, Avery, James, Aries, Ashlynn, Ahriana, Julius, and Jade. He was their favorite uncle.

A celebration of lifein honor of Quinton will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 from 6-8pm at the Le Jardin Greenhouse at Larkin Sunset Gardens. 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, UT
