Muriel J. Rawlings

1929 ~ 2017

Muriel Johnson Wiser Rawlings Bradley passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on April 18, 2017, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 22, 1929 in North Logan, Utah to Byron Wesley and Eulalia Myler Johnson. She was the fifth of seven children. She grew up on the family farm.

Muriel married Milton King Wiser August 9th, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had one son: Lorin M. Wiser. Milton passed away Sept. 2, 1952 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Muriel married Wendell Henry Rawlings October 20, 1954. Together they had four more children.

Prior to Milton's death, Muriel starting working as a switchboard operator. Nine years after she and Wendell married, they moved their family to Salt Lake City (Butler area) where Muriel utilized her switchboard skills as a telephone operator for Southeast Furniture (Sugarhouse area). Muriel later worked as a bank teller for Tracy Collins Bank in the Salt Lake Area. She was proficient with numbers. Often her children would ask her for a phone number and without hesitation she would provide the information.

Muriel had a love for music. In her youth, during a time of economic struggle, her parents sacrificed so that Muriel could receive voice lessons. She shared her musical talent throughout her life and passed that love onto her children. She was always prepared to perform if called upon. In addition to participating in ward, stake and institute choirs, she was also involved in community musical groups. She was a member of the Towne Singers in Logan, Utah and Carlson Singers in Preston , Idaho.

Muriel also loved to crochet. She made baby shawls as gifts for many of her grandchildren, and she sold many beautiful afghans and shawls at Mormon Handicraft.

Muriel was an expert at cooking a scrumptious roast beef. It was seasoned to perfection and fork tender. Her children remember many delicious Sunday dinners together.

Muriel was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in Ward and Stake callings throughout her life. Muriel and Wendell both had a passion for family history and temple work. They had the great opportunity and privilege of serving two temple missions, one to the Denver Colorado Temple and one to the Washington DC Temple. They also served together as temple ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple for 13 years.

Wendell passed away July 7, 2012.

Muriel married James L. Bradley on October 12, 2013. They were great friends and enjoyed singing together and visiting with family. James passed away on February 23, 2016. Muriel's children appreciate the acceptance and kindness that the Bradley family has shown to her.

During her lifetime, Muriel lived in Fairview, Idaho; North Logan, Utah; Salt Lake City, Utah; Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and Logan, Utah.

Muriel is survived by her children: (daughter-in-law Analee Carlin Wiser Brown), David W. (Tamra) Rawlings of North Logan, Ervin J. (Amiee) Rawlings of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, LeGrand J. (Karen) Rawlings of Salt Lake City, and Camille Hekking of Taylorsville, 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 12 step-children, and many step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Byron Wesley and Eulalia Myler Johnson, her husbands, Milton, Wendell and James, her son Lorin, her siblings: W. Monroe Johnson, Eula J. Allred, Elwood M. Johnson, Gayle M. Johnson, Ralph B. Johnson, and Blayne W. Johnson, and three grandchildren, Amelia C. Wiser, Aaron M. Wiser, and Adam G. Rawlings.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Riviera Ward Chapel, 601 E Mansfield Ave. Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 21 at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, SLC, UT from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. before the services on Saturday, April 22 at the Riviera Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery in Logan, Utah at 3:30 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Mortuary.
