In loving memory, we announce the passing of Wayne Bradford Wright, born on December 4, 1948, and peacefully departed on January 11, 2024. Wayne is a graduate of East High School where he met the love of his life, Shirley Margaret Brossard, and their union was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on October 24, 1969.

A courageous veteran, Wayne served in the Army during Vietnam, embodying honor and dedication. Known for his passion for music, Wayne found joy in its melodies throughout his life. He had a love for family history and his countless hours added depth to his legacy. A cherished highlight was a trip to Hawaii with his wife, Shirley, an experience that left an indelible mark on them both. Inspired by this journey, Wayne adopted the tradition of wearing Hawaiian shirts, expressing his love for the islands for the rest of his life.

Wayne was a devoted husband, and father to Trina Childs (Karl), Michael Wright (Leah), Adam Wright (Francine), Matthew Wright (Annie), Cheri Newhard (Tim), and Heather Christianson (Jeff). His role as a grandfather extended to 26 grandchildren, and he was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, Wayne is survived by his sister Verlyn (Kimball) and was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, Ernest Lynn and Rachel Verda Bradford Wright, his sisters Velma, Geraldine, Anna May, and Afton, and his brothers Ernest and Robert.

Funeral services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the River Ridge Ward house, located 10124 South 1300 West, South Jordan, UT 84095 next to the Jordan River Temple. A viewing will take place prior to services beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery

For those unable to attend in person, the services will be streamed via Zoom for virtual attendance.

May Wayne find eternal rest, and may his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.

When my sister married Wayne she was in seventh heaven, so happy to have her Eternal Companion. Together they explored some of the world and also had to experience time away from each other. They have an extraordinarily beautiful family devoted to building a strong family unit, and their Faith. Wayne was devoted to Shirley. When her health failed he took good care of her. I know he missed her and spent time reminiscing their time together on Social Media. He is loved and will be missed.

We loved Wayne and our friendship with him! He was so kind and always friendly. Personally I loved Wayne from our first connection in band at Bryant Jr. High and then again at East High. We both loved Patty Moore (ha ha). His contribution to the East High boys lunches was memorable and he got our pictures posted after. He will be dearly missed.

I’m sorry for your loss. I liked Wayne. We had a lot of fun on scout camp outs.

Your families are in my thoughts and prayers

Wayne and I are very old friends from the time. Our sisters pushed us around in our strollers until now. Wayne was always the clown of the class. Sometimes we didn’t get along because I I thought one way and he thought another but we always loved and cared about each other so happy for Wayne that he’s graduated and been reunited with Shirley, Larry and I will miss him and his Hawaiian shirts.

I just barely saw the obituary and I missed his funeral! So sorry to not see all of you and rejoice in a life well lived. Wayne is a good man and we were blessed to know him.
We pray you all are comforted as you recall the many memories you shared with him. Please know our hearts are with you.
Love,
Laurel Simonsen

Hey Wright family,

I listened to the celebration of life/funeral service of Wayne, my dear friend. It was a lovely tribute to a great man. I will personally miss seeing him at the East High Boys lunches. He was a great man and great friend. Condolences to each of you at this terribly hard time.

- Brian Homer

Will miss his many postings on face book which included family pictures. Was at least able to attend his viewing and to meet some of his family. Enjoyed our many years of family relationship. Wayne was my cousin. His father and my mother were bother and sister.
