  • Wayne Floyd Stoker, age 88, passed away early Sunday morning, August 15, 2021, surrounded by his wife and two of his daughters. He was born on December 16, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Floyd Stoker and Edna Spaulding Stoker.

He graduated from South High School in 1951, the University of Utah in 1957, got his Executive Management MBA at UCLA in 1970, and participated in numerous IBM training programs including one month at the Harvard Business School. While attending the University of Utah, he joined Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States (Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia) for two years. He was an active member and served in many positions throughout his life.

He married Myrle Brewster on May 4, 1956 and later divorced. Together they had four daughters. He married Brenda Johnson on December 17, 1992 and was sealed to her in the Salt Lake Temple on October 9, 2018.

Wayne loved to learn and was constantly furthering his knowledge. He worked for IBM his entire career, retiring at 55. After his retirement, he received a unique opportunity and continued working for two more years with IBM.

Wayne was a leader in the community and actively and selflessly served in many positions in DPMA, Jaycees, SME, Utah Legislative/Education Task Force, SLCC – ATC Advisory Board and Board Member, Salt Lake Visitors and Convention Bureau, Salt Lake Kiwanis (50 years, served on club board and member of Legion of Honor), Salt Shakers, Elks Club, Utah Westerners Member, Salvation Army (Advisory Board Member), condo boards and committees (Salt Lake and St. George) and SCORE (Assistant District Director 20+ years).

Wayne enjoyed photography, reading, traveling, playing the organ and piano (he played the piano in a teenage band), training his two dogs (Gigi and Rebel), golfing, tennis, snow/water-skiing. We have many fond memories boating as a family.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Brenda, his four daughters, Sharolyn (Mike) Anderson, Lynda Orme, Shauna (Reese) Richards and Susie Steenblik, 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, sister, Carol Elliott, brother, Lynn (Kathy) Stoker.
