Orval Ivan Wilson

1918 ~ 2013

Our wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Orval Ivan Wilson, 95, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013. Born Oct 7,1918 in Payson, UT, the 2nd child of Ivan Henry and Agnes Steiner Wilson. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Carlisle on June 21,1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were together for 70 years until her passing in June 2009. He worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA for 3 years before proudly serving his country in the Army\s 7th Mechanized Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop, Asia/Pacific Campaign from 1943-1946. After his return, they moved to Salt Lake City where he worked for Freed Motors and later as a Salt Lake City Police Officer from 1950-1983. He was an active member of the LDS Church and loved the missionary program, financially supporting many missionaries over the years. His family was his greatest love. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and repairing anything with an engine.

He is survived by daughters Margaret Ann Merkley (Jay) of Pocatello, ID, Glenda Burton (Jerald) of SLC, UT and Carol Morgan (John) of SLC, UT, 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and brother Jay (Pat) Wilson of Tooele, UT. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Norma White, lona Perkins, Erma Horton and Joie Peterson and brothers Thomas Wilson and Wayne Wilson.

Funeral services Saturday, Dec 14 at 11:00 am, Forestview Ward, 1111 E Charlton Ave (1100 E 2775 S), Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call Friday at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City from 6-8 pm and on Saturday at the church from 9:45-10:45 am. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
