Rory Coleman Hackett

1954 ~ 2014

November 8, 2014, a beautiful sunny morning, Rory Coleman Hackett waited for his whole family to be around him. He then opened his eyes, looked at his beloved wife of 32 years, and peacefully passed on to the great golf course in the sky where his dad welcomed him home.

Rory was born August 23, 1954 in Salt Lake City to Wendell and Audrey Hackett. He was the fourth of six children and loved skiing, sailing, tennis, and racing motorcycles, doing the occasional \"peace wheelie\" across the Skyline High School parking lot when he was supposed to be in class. He graduated from the University of Utah, and spent two wonderful years in Lansing Michigan serving an LDS mission. He met the love of his life on a blind date, they were engaged three weeks later and married in the Salt Lake Temple. The greatest joys of his life were found in being an incredible husband and father. In sharing his time through coaching teams, camping, fishing, golfing, and scouting he was able to be an example and serve the youth. Rory loved nature and being outdoors, biking all around Utah, boating in Lake Powell, and chasing that ever-elusive hole in one with his many friends on the golf course. Recently he served as Bishop of the Riverside YSA ward with amazing leaders and members and felt it was one of the highlights of his life. His testimony of Christ and the purpose of being here on earth never waivered and he was ready to leave his earthly body behind and join the Savior. He will be missed dearly.

Rory is survived by his wife Linda; his sons JW, Austin, Parker (Brooke), and Spencer (Maria); his mother, Audrey; and his siblings Craig, Kim, Brent, Heidi, and Liz.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 12 at the Olympus Stake Center on 2700 E 4500 S at 11:00 AM. A viewing will be held at the same location Tuesday evening at 6:00-8:00 pm.
