Wesley George Bentrude

1935 ~ 2022

Passed away on October 4th 2022. Wesley was born in Waterloo, IA on March 13, 1935. Son of George C. and Rena M. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1953; Iowa State University, BS Chemistry, 1957; University of Illinois, PhD in Organic Chemistry, 1961.

Served in several capacities at the Evangelical Free Church of Salt Lake City as a Deacon and Elder.

Caring husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Taught and directed research in the Chemistry department at the University of Utah from 1964 to 2002. Enjoyed camping and spectator sports, especially basketball and football. An avid fisherman of streams and high elevation lakes scouted by our trailblazing dog, Klutzy. Played the trombone in a marching band in college, and with a dance band while enjoying retirement in Naples, FL. Enjoyed all types of music, especially brass pieces that featured the trombone.

Survived by his children Brenda S Porter, Vero Beach, FL; Brian D Bentrude, Sandy, UT; grandchildren living in Salk Lake area: Dustin Porter and Jason Porter, Jessica Bentrude in Vero Beach, FL; Danielle Alberton; in Austin, TX: Jacob Bentrude; in Palos Verdes, CA: Jaron Bentrude; great-grandchildren Mya and Emma Albertoni; Duke, Hudson, Elijah, and Gabriel Porter; Wesley and Leona Bentrude. Preceded in death by his son Steven Bentrude.
