William (Bill) DeVon Stewart, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 11th, 2021. Bill was born June 19th, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ruth Elizabeth Cotterell and DeVon Youngberg Stewart. He was the second child in his family and had three sisters. He spent his early years in Salt Lake City before moving with his family at age seven to Hemet, California, where his father managed a turkey ranch. While on the ranch, Bill happily worked alongside his father managing the ranch and riding horses. During this time, he attended a one-room schoolhouse.

Bill’s father passed away when Bill was nine years old. His family moved back to Salt Lake City where he attended East High School, LDS Business College, and The University of Utah where he majored in business science and received the American Marketing Association Certificate of Recognition. In 1958, he left to serve a two-and-a-half-year mission in Uruguay and Paraguay for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning from his mission, he did a tour of duty with the 144th Evac Medical Hospital Unit for the United States Army. He married Marie Jorgensen in 1964, and they moved to California where he received his MBA. They were blessed with five wonderful children: Nanette, Kristin, Steven, David, and Jeffrey. Bill and Marie later divorced.

While in California, Bill worked for Highland Laboratories and then went on to become manager of the Wright Meat Packing Co. He later worked in sales in the heart-catheter division at USCI and traveled throughout Arizona and Southern California attending surgeries and providing doctors with valuable information during heart-catheter and pacemaker procedures. In 1985, he was hired by Medtronic Inc. to represent the company in the San Diego area selling cardiovascular pacemaker products.

Bill loved fishing. After working in the hospitals, he would often roll up his sleeves and go down to the nearest river to fish. He had a great love of nature and would take his children camping, hiking, and hunting. He also had a great love for his German shepherd dogs. His children recall that he took great pride in his yard, and Bill's landscaping talents were well-known throughout his neighborhoods. He served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His testimony of the Lord was unwavering as he journeyed through life. Bill found the good in everyone and no matter where he went, he helped others who were in need. He was truly a man of service.

In 2005, Bill married the love of his life, Kathryn Lloyd, in the Salt Lake Temple. He loved her daughters and grandchildren as if they were his own. Bill and Kathryn found joy being with their families, attending their grandchildren’s events, taking short trips together, and in serving as inner-city missionaries.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters and their husbands: Shari and Richard Dickson and Sue and Norm Feldsted. He is survived by his loving wife; his sister, Betty Sudholt, and her husband, Charles; Bill’s five children, Nanette Petersen, Kristin (Doug) Malm, Steve Stewart, David (Kristin) Stewart, and Jeffrey Stewart; as well as the three daughters of his wife, Kathryn: Kimberly (Matt) Morris, Katie (Peder) Singleton, and Candace Lach (Jared Steffensen); and twenty wonderful grandchildren.

    He will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 17th, 2021, at 11:30 am at the Wasatch 5th Ward Chapel, located at 8169 Top of the World Drive in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Prior to the funeral, there will be a viewing for family and friends at the church building from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery following the funeral services.

Our hearts are saddened at the loss of this good friend and relative. He was loved by all who knew him. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. We grieve with Katheryn, but are comforted by faith in Jesus Christ, the Resurrection and knowledge that death is only a step forward into glorious light and love. We will miss Bill and rejoice that we will meet again.

I am so sorry to read about Bills death.
It didn’t say how he died, but hope it was a very easy passing. I know he’d been in pain for many years with neuropathy.
    Bless you all

We met Bill and Kathryn when they lovingly served our Spanish-speaking church congregation. I remember he always had a smile and kind words despite of the intense pain he was suffering. He will always hold a special place in our hearts, thank you for your wonderful example. Until we meet again, Hermano
