William Gene Skordas

1934 ~ 2023

"I'll be with you soon"

On Tuesday, October 3, our father, William Gene Skordas kept that promise to our mother. He passed away comfortably and peacefully surrounded by family, just 36 days after mom's passing. After 69 years of marriage, those 36 days were the longest they were ever apart.

William G. Skordas was born February 24, 1934 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to parents Gust Pete Skordas and Flora Carlson Skordas. He was the fourth of five siblings; Sisters Georgia and Stella, and brothers Pete and Tom.

Dad's family moved to Utah when he was a young man and he attended East High school. He became an excellent drummer and played in dance bands all over the Salt Lake Valley. During one dance, he met a young pianist and asked her to sit at his drum set and play while he took a break. That pianist was our mother, Beverly. They soon thereafter fell in love and married on March 7, 1954.

Mom and Dad raised 4 kids: Cyndi (Dennis) King, Greg (Rebecca) Skordas, Doug (Esther) Skordas and Wendi (Rick) Perkins. They had 10 Grandchildren and 19 Greatgrandchildren and loved every one of them.

After High School, dad took a job at Hafer's selling truck parts. He worked there for 48 years, eventually retiring as Sales Manager. Dad loved hunting and fishing and taught his sons how to do both. He also bought a '69 Ford pickup and a travel trailer and took his family all over the west, visiting most every National and State Park. He continued playing the drums during the weekends and his bands were frequent entertainers at venues like "The Cottonwood Club" and many others.

He and mom raised us kids in the Holladay area and eventually moved to Sandy. For many years they also had a quiet place in St. George where they enjoyed the winters.

Dad is survived by all 4 of his children, Cyndi, Greg, Doug and Wendi and all of his 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and of course, mom, who he could not live without. At her funeral, he whispered to her, "I'll be with you soon" and he kept that promise.

Dad's life will be celebrated at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy Utah on Monday, October 9, 2023 with a viewing beginning at 12:30 PM. A short service will follow at the same location that afternoon at 2 PM followed by his interment at 3 PM.
