Obituary Photo for William Merrill Madsen < >

Loved husband, father, and grandfather, William Merrill Madsen passed away Sunday morning while getting ready for Sacrament Meeting at his assisted living facility April 30th 2023. He was one month shy of his 89th birthday.

Merrill was born May 28th 1934 to Dermont Madsen and Twyla Bagnall in Fountain Green, Utah. Where his Great Grandfather James Niels Madsen was assigned by Brigham Young to cultivate.

His greatest love and joy was his wife Peggy Jeanne Truscott, who passed on January 12th 2023. Dad met Mom at a Square dance class while they attended Brigham Young University. Although it was expected he couldn’t live long without her, he strove to maintain his health so that he could live his best life.

After graduation Merrill and Peggy moved to Arcadia, California for an internship after which he took and passed the CPA exam. After working as a CPA in his own practice he spent his life working as CFO of a number of companies that were in the medical instrument industry.

Although Dad was unable to serve a mission due to the Korean Conflict, he loved serving in the Church. While he served as bishop of the Taylorsville 3rd Ward, Merrill was a favorite among the youth. Among other callings he also served as a High Councilman and High Priest Group Leader. But what he talked about most was serving in the Provo Temple and as a greeter at the Provo MTC.

He is survived by his children William Craig, Lorie Jeanne (Scott) Gallagher, Lynette (Jay) Sorensen, Scott Allen Madsen (LeeAnn). And preceded in death by his parents Dermont and Twyla Bagnall Madsen, wife Peggy Jeanne Truscott, daughter Suzanne Madsen Men, daughter-in-law, Stacey Cook Madsen, grandson, Scott Andrew Madsen.

There will be a graveside memorial May 8th at 11:00am at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy

Guestbook/Condolences

Craig,
Tonight I was thinking about Merrill and Peggy. I wondered how they were doing so I googled their name and came upon the obituary. I’m very sorry for your families loss this past year. I loved them both and thought of them often.
Most sincerely.
