Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away at the age of 77 on October 2, 2019 in Murray, Utah after a month long battle of a serious case of pneumonia, while also dealing with heart and lung complications.
Verla was born on October 6, 1941 in Shelley, Idaho to Dean and Florence Virginia Miller McInelly. Verla was the oldest of 4 children, Oliver, Ray, and Denie, whom she loved very much. Verla and her family moved to Utah from Idaho when she was a kid. Verla graduated from East High School class of 1959. Verla married her sweetheart, Edgar P Koonce on April 8, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and were married for 59 years. Verla and Edgar had 8 children together: Robert, Debbie, Susan, Brian, Mary, Daniel, Michael, Emily and numerous people that called her mom.
Verla worked at Mervyns 19+ years and loved every minute of it, she was only going to go to be
seasonal help and was hired on permanently and stayed until the store closing at Family Center Store. Verla loved spending time with her sweetheart Edgar. They enjoyed each-others company, especially playing card games like Crazy 8\s. Mom was an avid reader, a love which she shared with her family.
Mom loved traveling, scrap-booking, and spending time with her family, especially her children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mom had a great love for going to concerts with her daughters, especially when Josh Groban came to town. Mom also loved rainbows, butterflies and her facebook friends, they made her feel special and she talked about them often. Mom had an infectious smile, laugh, a good heart, and she would help anyone in need. She deeply loved her sweetheart and all of her children. Mom had an amazing strength and faith in the Lord. She loved the Savior and clung to him through all her struggles.
Verla is survived by her husband Edgar P Koonce, her children Robert (Crystal) Koonce, Debbie
(Allen) Thompson, Susan (Scott) Woodcock, Brian Koonce, Mary (Brett) Francis, Daniel Koonce, Michael Koonce, Emily (Taylor) Bird and Bonus Daughters Michelle and Janni, grandchildren Katherine, Samantha, Nicole, Josh, Amber, Heather, Shelby, Whitney, Mallory, Riley, Jody, Laree, Katelinn, Shayla, McKenzie, Kylee, Evan, Addison, Amanda, Kimberly, Tamrya, Chaele, Polly, Cassidy, Nicolas, David, Tabitha, Chris, Becky, Austin, Tyler, Garrett, Bryson, McKenna, Logan, Reagan, Ashleigh, Morgan, Alexis, Savannah, Hailee, Rayshell, Camerin, Spencer, Jacob, Matthew, Jakson, Reese, Mason and Finlee. Verlas Siblings, Denie McInelly Moffett, Ray (Donna) McInelly, her nieces and nephews Dean, James, Steve, Brandy, Cori, Jamie, McInelly, Katie Moore, Christy, April, Casey and Rusty Moffett, and 51 Great-grandchildren. Verla was preceded in death by her parents Dean and Florence McInelly, her brother Oliver McInelly, brother in law Brian Moffett, and grandchildren Brayden Koonce and Gracie Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd., (10600 S.) Sandy, Utah. Viewings will be held on Thursday October 10, 2019 from 6-8 PM and Friday morning from 9:30- 10:30 AM prior to services at the same location.
