Lynn Paul Walker

1934 ~ 2015

Lynn P. Walker died peacefully in his home in Cottonwood Heights at the age of 81 on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. He was loved by all who knew him and lived a fulfilling life.

Lynn was born in Nephi, Utah. He graduated from Springville High School where he was the star quarterback and Senior Class President. Even with all his accomplishments, he seemed most proud of the pranks and mischief that he was able to carry out despite his father\s position as the high school principal. He had a great sense of humor throughout his life.

He served an LDS church mission in South Africa. Throughout his life he delighted his children, grandchildren and other audiences by sharing stories of heroism and words of caution about his experiences with wildlife in Africa. He then went on to receive a degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University. He worked as a chemical engineer in the consulting and energy fields for 45 years. During this time he received numerous patents, developed innovative refining processes and managed the construction of the largest solar power plant in the world at the time (1980), which is still powering Natural Bridges National Monument. He also developed significantly more effective emission scrubbing processes for coal burning power plants to improve air quality. His projects took him all over the world, but he most enjoyed being at home with his family.

He married Nedra Whitney in 1958. Together they raised 5 children. Theirs was a nurturing environment filled with good books, music, art, science, and interesting projects - a place of faith and opportunities for learning and growth. Lynn taught through example that any problem can be solved through careful thought and determination. He also loved the outdoors and taught the family to appreciate and revere the grandeur of the earth. Nedra preceded him in death in 1989.

He enjoyed spending his golden years with his sweet Marilynn Rainsdon, whom he married in 2004. The two enjoyed traveling to her cabin in the Palisades, attending various events of their combined 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, hiking, and enjoying time in their backyard watching squirrels and George the cat. Lynn was blessed to spend his retirement years laughing and spending quality peaceful time with Marilynn and family.

Lynn is survived by his wife Marilynn, his children Teresa (Doug) Thornberg, Linda Tapp, Brent (Marilyn) Walker, Quinn Walker, and Kerstin (Brandon) Barney, and by his stepchildren Tim (Milenka) Stocking, David (Tawna) Stocking, Jason (Shirley) Stocking, Ryan (Stacey) Stocking, and Nick (Natalie) Stocking.
