Calvin Kenney Smith

1928 ~ 2018

Calvin Kenney Smith, 90, passed away peacefully, early Christmas morning in Mesa, Arizona. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, brother-in-law and uncle.

He was born June 6th, 1928 to Silas Ivern Smith and Marvel Kenney Smith in Murray, Utah. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Lorin and Arvil Smith and survived by two sisters, LaVern Ball and LaFae Harris.

Calvin married the love of his life, the late Carole Beth (Brown) Smith and had four children, the late Lory Smith, living children; Marla Kay (Smith) Lay, husband Michael Lay, Sterling C. Smith, wife Mary Smith, Lisa Marie (Smith) Jones and has 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

As a young man, Calvin's first job was an usher at the famous Murray Theatre off State Street and Vine. Calvin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Holland where he learned to speak Dutch and traveled throughout Europe. After his mission, Calvin worked for JC Penney's in Salt Lake where he met Carole and later asked her to wait for him while he joined the Army to serve his country. Calvin has had many careers in his lifetime including working at Walker Bank, Grand Central and Hercules Aerospace where he retired after almost 30 Years.

Calvin enjoyed his family both at home and when taking family vacations around the country. Calvin and Carole often vacationed with their best friends Dale and Diana Seiter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Sego Lily Ward Chapel, 9824 South Flint Drive (1100 East) Sandy, UT. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) Sandy, Utah and from Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services at the church. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
