Always a vigilant seeker of knowledge,JayToddBesseywas welcomed into a world of more expansive knowledge by his Heavenly Father on November 17, 2016. Born October 19, 1968,Jayexcelled in the academic arena. He was valedictorian of Taylorsville High School, a National Merit Scholar, and qualified Mensa. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Chemistry, taking time out to serve an LDS mission in Paris, France, and studied business at the University of Texas.

Deeply contemplative, he belonged to a philosophical society, the Socrates Café, where he enjoyed spirited conversations. He believed that intelligence without compassion was of little value, and took an active role in making his world better as a volunteer for the Kentucky Refuge Ministries, and through his work in the Elders Quorum Presidency in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Currently, he was working as an IT specialist for Microbac Laboratories. With his attention to detail, he flourished in that department. He valued his friendships, and was particularly thankful for his time discussing NPR, movies, politics, and music with Vanetta Smith. He loved to talk for hours about politics, philosophy, and justice.

Jayis survived by his parents, Merritt LaneBessey(Kathleen), Judith Eriksen (Erik); sister, Kimberly Sabourin (Mike); brothers, ChrisBessey(Tina), MichaelBessey, Paul Eriksen; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held for him at Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00am at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy, UT.
