Richard Knute Borg

1932 ~ 2018

Our loving father, Dick Borg passed away peacefully Friday February 2, 2018 from pneumonia while recovering from a stroke the day after Christmas. He was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Inez Jacobson and Knute Borg January 30, 1932. He grew up in the Sugarhouse area where he had many happy times with his abundance of cousins, aunts, and uncles. He graduated from East High in 1949.

Dick attended the University of Utah, but in July 1951, during the Korean War, he interrupted his education and enlisted in the Air National Guard. He was stationed at George Air Force Base in CA with the 4th Tow Target Squadron. He was honorably discharged Dec. 1952.

He was soon called on an LDS mission to the Sweden, Stockholm mission and served mainly in northern Sweden. Both his parents had immigrated from Sweden and he was proud to serve there until his release in 1954.

Finally, he was able to resume his university studies and graduated from University of Utah in business in 1957. He started on his career path as a controller with Sears at the store in Provo where he met his future wife Dotty Tasker who also worked there. Not knowing she went to BYU, their first date was the Utah/BYU football game. Despite that rocky start, they married in the Salt Lake City temple in June 1959.

He continued to climb the ladder with Sears and spent 26 years of his career in California, from Santa Rosa to San Diego and many places in between. Their two daughters, D'Le and Danette, were born in CA along the way. Their final move was to Chicago to the national offices of Sears where Dick eventually retired after 35 years. After retiring, he and Dotty moved back to Utah to be close to their family. Dick continued to work as a consultant to various companies and enjoyed conducting training seminars. He made many lifelong friends while serving in numerous leadership positions in the LDS church throughout his lifetime, and he was always a faithful home teacher. He and Dotty eventually divorced, and Dick spent the remainder of his time enjoying his family.

Dick was proceeded in death by his parents Inez and Knute Borg, as well as his younger brother, Gary, who died as an infant. He is survived by his two daughters D'Le Borg, Danette Borg and her partner Lisa Dennis, beloved grand-daughter Monica (Mark) Hansen and his joyous great-grandsons Milo and Royce; ex-wife Dotty (Tasker Borg) Wrathall.
