Alfred Benjamin Dansie Jr.

1925 ~ 2013

Ben Dansie, 88, passed away July 23, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah from causes incidental to age. Ben was born August 15, 1925 in Salt Lake City. He was the son of Alfred Benjamin Dansie Sr. and Lucile Brown Burton.

He was married to his sweetheart Lei Nani Barnes for 65 years and to this union were born four children; Diana (Al) Hardy of Wyoming, Dave (Jeanette) of Washington, RaeLynne (Rodney) of Utah, and Scott (Alan Liu) Of Utah. Ben is also survived by ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Ben was introduced to skiing as a teenager which became a lifelong passion. He was instrumental in the development of Pomerelle Ski Resort and Ski School outside of Burley, Idaho. He was also a ski instructor at Beaver Mountain Ski Resort. Ben was employed as a seedsmen for 33 years. He and Lei Nani were also the co-owners of Western Seeds Inc. of Burley, Idaho and Tremonton, Utah.

Upon retirement, Ben and Lei spent their winters in Kona, Hawaii and their summers in Park City, Utah. In Kona he spent many hours volunteering at Amy Greenwell Botanical Gardens. Ben used his creativity to beautify the grounds. He built structures that still benefit all those who visit the gardens today. He also enjoyed spending time with family boating at Bear Lake where he and Lei owned a cabin. They also loved traveling and have toured many destinations around the world.

Graveside services will take place at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 N. St., on Saturday July 26 at 1:00 p.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Hemophilia Foundation of Portland, Oregon or Primary Children's Hospital of Salt Lake City.
