Gladys Jean Greer Schoppe

1934 ~ 2017

Gladys Jean Greer Schoppe, 82, died surrounded by her loving family on April 4, 2017. Gladys was born on September 11, 1934, to Abbie Edward and Melvina Jane Hanks Greer. Gladys was the second of their four children, and their only daughter. Gladys attended school in Cisco, Green River and Salt Lake City, Utah. Gladys married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Philip Schoppe on his leave June 5, 1952 and Gladys returned to Clovis with Bob where his Air Force Reserve unit had been activated. Gladys worked a variety of jobs in Real Estate and Office Management, including Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Coldwell Banker. Gladys is an accomplished seamstress, excellent cook, and enjoyed tole painting, crafts, and a good book. Her family has always been her first priority. Yearly vacations were a tradition while raising their family, mixed with many camping/boating trips, and skiing in the winter. As empty-nesters they spent many winters at their home in Harrisburg, Utah, where she spent relaxing hours golfing, water aerobics, and reading on the patio. They enjoyed many cruises and island vacations. They treated their daughters and spouses on a cruise to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Gladys has always been service oriented, spending many hours serving family and friends and on committees. She is a member of the L.D.S. church and faithfully fulfilled a variety of callings including Primary President. Gladys and her mother, Melva, enjoyed their participation with The Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Her four daughters, nine grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren could always count on her to support them in all of their activities. The past 10 plus years she has valiantly fought a progressive blood disease. She desperately wanted to live and endured many painful and exhausting treatments to battle the disease. We will all miss her beautiful smile that could light up a room and her bright blue eyes that were not ready to give up looking at this world. Gladys is survived by her husband, Bob, her three brothers, Chuck, Bob, and Guy, her four daughters, Bonnie Jean (Timothy Jacobson), Karrie Lynn (Dale Hine), Margie Lee (JB Bryan), Shellie Ann (Jeffrey Van Os), 9 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and greeted in joy by her beloved great-grandson, Tate Timothy Jacobson.
