Our dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed peacefully with a smile on his face on Monday, September 22, after a long battle with cancer. He was known by everyone to be a gentle man, always positive, with a wonderful smile that never left him in spite of his suffering.
Reuel was born to Charles M Ware and Beatrice Ware in Salt Lake City on September 8, 1932. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, graduated from both East High where he was a class officer and the University of Utah where he served as Sophomore Class President. He was a Phi Delta Theta and to this day has many loyal brothers.
In 1954 he married his soul mate, Dorothy Midgley, graduated from the University of Utah and was commissioned into the Air Force, serving until 1958. In 1961 they bought the blue print shop, PHOTO BLUE CO, started by his father the year he was born (1932), now known as REUEL'S ART and FRAME and REUELS DISTRIBUTION CENTER.
They reared three children who blessed them with eight grandchildren. The family joined the Cottonwood Country Club in 1968 and made many long-time, wonderful friends playing tennis and golf. Reuel served on the Board and as President in 1985. Considerable time was also spent boating, fishing and skiing as a family.
Reuel became involved in many things and received much acknowledgement and many awards from his peers. Serving as President of the Salt Lake Kiwanis Club in 1974-75, he helped found the Jackson Boys and Girls Club and received the "Man and Boy Award" from Boys Clubs of America. He was on the Board of Directors of (NAMTA) theInternational Art Materials Trade Assn. from 1970 to 1986, served as President and was later inducted into their "Hall of Fame."
Active in the development of Downtown Salt Lake City, he was a member of the Salt Shaker's (Chamber of Commerce) Group for 20 years. Wonderful times were had with good friends. An active member of the Downtown Retail Merchants Association, Reuel served as President in l986-87 and received their Annual Service Award in 2002. He served on Mayor Palmer DePaulis's downtown advisory committee 1986-87, served on the Board of the Downtown Alliance 1991 to 1999 and was Chairman of the Central Business Improvement District in 1990-91.
A loyal alumnus of the University of Utah, Reuel served on the University Fine Arts Advisory Board and the University Emeritus Alumni Assn. Board. He received their "Merit of Honor Award" in 2005. He was a member of the Presidents Club and the Founders Club. Being a big football fan, he loved the Ute football team and followed them to many bowl games.
Dr. Bryce at Mayo Clinic, AZ, and Dr. Agarwal at Huntsman Cancer, S.L. kept him in remission for many years. We are forever grateful to for the good years they gave us and he beat the odds for 24 years with smile and his positive attitude. We dearly love Fountain Hills and the love and support we have had from our many friends there.
Reuel is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; their three children, Mike (Mary), Terri Jarrett (Ross), Julie Wynhof (Art); and eight grandchildren, Cory, Whitney, Cameron, Kathleen, Johnny, Amy, Kyle, Tyler; one sister, Virginia (Ginny)Hestmark; brother in-law, Jay Midgley (Kathleen), and many supportive nieces, nephews and friends.
The family is very grateful for the many friends who knew him and loved him as well as the loving care and support provided by Inspiration Hospice, especially, Nikki, Cheryl, and Ollie.
A celebration of Reuel's life will be held at the Cottonwood Country Club, 1780 East Lakewood Drive, Holladay UT, on Sunday, October 5, at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to either Huntsman Cancer, Inspiration Hospice or the Assistance League of Salt Lake City.
