Robert Gage Higgins

1945 ~ 2016

After battling cancer for five years, Robert G. Higgins Jr. (Chip) died peacefully at home on January 20, 2016. He will be missed by his family, friends, and past work associates.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1945, Chip grew up in a military family, living in various places including Arizona, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan. He enjoyed playing football in high school and was a devoted fan of the sport all of his life, cheering for the BYU Cougars. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Leslie Pickett. He served in the Air Force, fighting in Vietnam for a year. He attended Arizona State University and the University of Utah, graduating with a degree in accounting. For the majority of his career, Chip worked at Questar Gas in various positions: accounting, auditing, computer software development and project management. After retiring from that company in 1999, he worked as a project manager of software development with the Utah Department of Transportation, retiring completely in 2010.

Chip held an avid interest in history and politics, serving as a republican state delegate several times. He was dedicated to staying in shape through weightlifting and loved spending time with his grandchildren. When he was 32 years old, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after investigating it for several years. He was active in that organization throughout his life, serving in various positions and working in the temple.

He will be mourned by his wife: Leslie Pickett Higgins; his two daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Matt Glassey, and Brittany and Sam Maloy; his siblings and their spouses: Barbara (sister) and Kit Carson, Sandy (sister) and Bernie Farrington, and John (brother) and Gail Higgins; and his six grandchildren: Robbie, Sabrina, Cameron, Kaitlyn, Olivia, and Irelynd. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maydelle Cole (mother) and Robert G. Higgins Sr. "Bob" (father).

Services will be held Saturday, January 30 at 11:00am at Alta Heights LDS Chapel at 1500 E. 8600 S. in Sandy, with a viewing that morning from 10:00-10:45am. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy.
