Catherine Ione Morgan

1933 ~ 2014

With loved ones surrounding her, Catherine Ione Morgan passed away January 2, 2014 in Sandy, UT at the age of 80.

Catherine was born June 28, 1933 in Pocatello, ID. She attended Pocatello High School where she and her friends organized the high school's first drill team. She sang with the school's triple trio and was the leading role in many operettas. Catherine married her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Mark Bigler Morgan, on December 27, 1950. Following her graduation from high school, she joined Mark in Wichita Falls, TX while he served in the Air Force until 1954. Upon returning to Pocatello, Catherine began working as a PBX operator and clerk for Union Pacific Railroad supporting Mark through his college years. She continued her career there until 1969. While in Pocatello, she was active in the community, fundraising for United Way, American Cancer Society, and many other causes. She served as a board member of the Idaho State Civic Symphony.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Catherine served faithfully in many roles from primary chorister to stake relief society president. She was most proud of her time spent as a relief society counselor for the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center. Catherine and Mark moved to Salt Lake City, UT in 2000 to be near their family. Following Mark's death in 2006, she served in the Jordan and Draper temples and then as a Church-service missionary teaching English.

Catherine gave many years of love to Mark, and squeezed in a few hands of bridge and rounds of golf along the way. She loved going to lunch and the movies with her friends. She was the best movie critic in town. Her sense of style, witty humor, and love for others endeared her to everyone!

Catherine is survived by her four children, Michael Ellis (Michelle Marra) San Diego, CA; Kathy Lynn Miller, Sandy, UT; Carrie Lee Hazel (Merrill) Sandy, UT; Rebecca Jean Dutson (Rulon) Salt Lake City, UT; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three siblings, Dale Bybee (LaNeé), Joan Price, and Carole Richards (Rich); other family members, Kay Lynne Morgan and David Wilson Miller; many other relatives and dear friends.
