Karen Lane Nielsen, age 77, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, due to complications of COPD. She was born May 11, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Jay Bateman and Alice Wanda Pay Bateman King. Karen was the middle child of three, her older brother Ron, and younger sister Linda. She had been a widow since the death of her husband, Joe Nielsen, in 1971.
Karen was the executive secretary for the AFLCIO for 40 years until her retirement. Her family and her two birds were her whole life. She loved to go to Las Vegas with her younger sister, Linda.
She is survived by her sons Robert (Julie) Lane and Steve (Kory) Lane; step-daughter Tiffany (Steve) Metcalf; brother Ronald (Gloria) Bateman; sister Linda Formo Brandes; grandchildren Josh, Kyle, Matt, Chris, Skyler and Garrett, great-grandchild, Cade, with another one on the way, and nephews Chad Formo and Bryce (Brenda) Formo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one grandson, Justin.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 12:00 noon, at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, where friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service.
