Betty Lou Jones Stones

1926 ~ 2014

Our loving Sister, Mother, Aunt and Grandmother passed away January 24, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. Betty was born May 3, 1926 in Clear Creek, Utah to Thomas Naylor Jones and Mary Magdalene Winkler. She attended schools in Salt Lake and graduated from West High School and worked at the Red Cross in Camp Kearns during World War II. She married her sweetheart, J. Roy Stones, in the Salt Lake Temple December 13, 1945. Together they raised and survived four sons. She later worked for and retired from the Utah State Tax Commission. After retirement Betty and Roy served an LDS mission in Jackson, Mississippi. Betty and Roy raised their family in the Glendale Park area and still have many friends in that area of Salt Lake City. They also loved the many friends and the years they spent while living and attending the Canyon Road Ward in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Betty was devoted to her sweetheart and greatly enjoyed time spent with family, especially her 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and you could always find her with one of her favorites, Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion by Jane Austen. She was a life-long member of the LDS church and faithfully fulfilled many callings. She loved dancing with her husband and spent summers enjoying Hebgen Lake. She is survived by her sister, Wanda, sons Roy (Hortensia), Michael (Suzie), Dennis (Fern), and Brian (LuAnn). She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Phyllis and Wayne.

With special thanks to Roy, Hortensia, Dennis and Fern for their devoted time in attending to her needs. Betty will be sorely missed by her family, friends and special friends, Charlie ("Charlie Darlie") and Canela ("Nelly Belly").
