He was born on January 19, 1934 to James Shelby Carlston and Weltha Kesler Carlston in Salt Lake City, Utah. Married Nancy Lou Stuart on August 17, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized on November 5, 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad and Mom are now together celebrating their 60th anniversary after nearly a 13 month separation.

Leon dedicated his life to caring for his family. He was very close to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his siblings. Dad was a man of many talents. He built their own home, camping trailer, snowmobile trailer and helped family, friends, coworkers and neighbors do the same. Dad served in the Army and was a machinist at Kennecott Copper up through retirement. He would always take Mom and the grandchildren and great grandchildren to the Kennecott events. Many wonderful memories surround many us as all have spent time with them in their travels, camping, fishing, hiking, and many, many, many family reunions. Dad was always very interested in what his family was doing and was very supportive and concerned about all of us. He enjoyed taking people waterskiing, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. Dad and Mom spent their later years gathering family history, leaving us with an amazing family history from 1836 ‚ 2015. Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he supported mom in her numerous callings such as Stake Young Womens Camp Director, scout leader, ward librarian. He enjoyed home teaching and volunteered anyway he could. Dad and Mom enjoyed the opportunity to serve others, especially when they went with friends to an Indian reservation.
