Ila Westover Pyper

Ila Westover Pyper passed away on 23 August 2013 in Hacienda Heights, California, surrounded by family and friends.

Ila was born on November 16, 1918, in Lewiston, Utah, to Albert Haven Westover and Liva Karren. She is the second oldest of ten children. Upon graduation from North Cache High School in 1936, she attended the Henagar Business College in Salt Lake City and later served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Texas Mission from September 17, 1941, to June 20, 1943. Upon her return, she worked for First National Bank in Salt Lake City while living at the Beehive House on South Temple.

She married Joseph Dollinger Pyper, Jr., on April 29, 1949, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage until Joe's untimely death on July 22, 1976. Ila and Joe had four children - Susan Pyper Zwahlen (Samuel Stephen Zwahlen), Carol Pyper Marcusen (Peter Scott Marcusen), Linda Pyper Hendry (Craig Ernest Hendry), and Joseph Dollinger Pyper III. She has nine grandchildren ~ Samira Zwahlen Hall (Steven Michael Hall), Stephen Joseph Zwahlen (Catherine Marie Spencer), Alexandra Zwahlen Tenny (Nathan Andrew Tenny), Jacob Earl Moore (Emily Tripp), Roy Stanford Zwahlen (Michelle Elaine Freebairn), Jonathan Scott Moore (Natalie Wright), Sarah Marcusen Calder (Drew Lachlan Calder), Kristen Marcusen, and Ann Christine Hendry. There are sixteen great-grandchildren ~ James Michael Hall, Cayden Jacob Moore, Miriam Hall, Brooklyn Moore, Zachary Ryan Zwahlen, Makayla Ila Tenny, Abigail Claire Zwahlen, Gavin Douglas Moore, Ethan Michael Zwahlen, Samuel David Zwahlen, Arianna Tenny, Gage Mason Moore, Sophia Catherine Zwahlen, Sofi Lee Calder, Lydia Jane Zwahlen, and Asher Owen Moore. For the last 26 years she has resided in Hacienda Heights, California, with her daughter Carol Marcusen and family.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, 31 August at 12:00 noon at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to this service at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.
