Evelyn Kaethe Westover

1929 ~ 2017

Evelyn K. Westover, beloved Mother, Oma and devoted Friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family and dear friends. Evelyn was born on January 13, 1929 in Chemnitz, Germany to Erich and Kaethe Richter. She came to America in the mid-fifties and eventually ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah where she raised her family and lived until her death. After raising her children, she worked for Marianne's Delicatessen for 25 years. Evelyn was known well by the downtown business community as Marianne's was a favorite lunch spot. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone!

Evelyn's passion was her yard. She was happiest digging in the dirt and planting flowers making it beautiful each and every year. In fact, she won the South Salt Lake Beautiful Yard Award for 2017 shortly before she died. Evelyn was a fantastic cook and hostess! We all looked forward to her annual German BBQ and her divine German Rouladen at Christmastime. She loved to entertain and did so eloquently! She was active until her death, always looking her best no matter if the destination was the grocery store, Costco, a doctor's appointment, or having lunch with her regular Saturday Kaffeeklatsch group. Evelyn was the epitome of the quote, "No Matter How You Feel, Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up and Never Give Up."

Evelyn was a caretaker! No matter who was sick, in the hospital or needed help, she was there. From helping to take care of Mom Westover for many years with Mickey; to visiting friends or family in the hospital, always with treats; to the loving care she took of her dear husband, Mickey, the last three years of his life. Evelyn was always there for everybody!

She was devoted to her little dog Schatzi that she took with her everywhere. To know Evelyn, was to know Schatz! She also loved her feral cat community that lived in her back yard. Each day, she would give them a mixture of dry and wet food with an egg in it once a week for a shiny coat; and in the winter, they got warm milk every morning. How she loved her animals! How she loved all animals!

Evelyn is survived by her children, Eva Boyd (Larry); Ted Konold (Jan); her stepdaughters, Cherie Westover (Gerry Butler) and Michelle Bullock (Monte) and their children; her beloved granddaughter and caretaker, Chereneh Konold; grandson, Damek Konold (Alesia); great grandchildren, Kailyer, Kean, Aiden, and Chloe; and her many loyal friends whose friendships and love she cherished. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Mickey J. Westover, in 1996.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, 175 South 700 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Evelyn's cremated remains will be interred with her husband at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Evelyn requested donations be made to Best Friends Utah Community Cat Program at www.bit.ly/catfoodpantry or www.bit.ly/catwishlist. TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE THEM ALL!!!
