Kilina Ka’ati Fonua To’a

1935 ~ 2016

11/04/1935 ‚ 12/12/2016

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend returned to her Heavenly Father on December 12, 2016, in her apartment at Willowood Apartments in Sandy, UT. She returned in peace and calm, with no signs of pain or suffering.

She had two children and is survived by both: Eni Lyla (Saia) Moimoi, and Albert (Jennifer) To'a.

She also had her grandchildren which were her everything and is survived by them as well: Alisi Mykel Outly, Madicyn Seini To'a, Sydni Kilina To'a, and Samuela Viliami To'a. They meant the world to her and she loved them with all her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, four sisters, and her husband, Alipeti Tuku'afu To'a. The marriage was for a very brief time here on earth, they were both very respectful and loving of each other and had a wonderful relationship, although divorced.

She was born on November, 4, 1935 in Houma, Tongatapu, Tonga to Militoni and Mele (Talanoa) Fonua.

She was one of 13 children and grew up in a loving home with a very close-knit family. She loved her family very much and often spoke of her many wonderful memories of growing up in Tonga.

She came to the United States originally in the early 1960's and then went back to Tonga in the late 1960's for a very brief time. She finally found a final destination in Utah in 1968. Unfortunately, she never had the opportunity to return to her homeland of Tonga.

In the Tongan culture, family is everything, and her family meant everything to her. There were so many that opened their homes, hearts and arms to Ka'ati and her children over the years. There are no words that can express the love and the feelings of gratitude, that she had for you all and that we as her children have for you as well.

She lived a very simple life. She worked her entire life, providing the best that she could for her two children as a single mom. She worked for LDS Hospital, Beehive Clothing, performed work as a custodian, and as a live-in for several families. She retired from Beehive clothing in 1997, an early retirement, in order to begin her favorite job, which was as Babysitter for her grandkids. We were very lucky to have her around to watch and babysit each of the grandkids, from the time they were infants to the time they were able to go to Kindergarten or First Grade.

She was a devout and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved to attend the temple, do her visiting teaching, and read her scriptures. She served two service missions at the Bishop's Store House.

There are so many that have a very personal connection with Ka'ati and there is no way to name all of you here. Please know that she loved you all.
