Christopher Philip Matz

1980 ~ 2015

Christopher Philip Matz passed away Monday, September 21, 2015. He was born on a rainy morning in Salt Lake City, February 18, 1980 to Kerry Scott Matz and Janice Wilkerson. Christopher was a curious and bright little child who brought joy and happiness to his parents, two older sisters, grandparents, teachers, and all who knew him.

He attended Ensign elementary, Bryant middle school, and graduated from East High School. He loved learning and got excellent grades. He was especially interested in all Science, especially Marine Biology, and was a talented artist. He attended the University of Utah.

Christopher had a tender heart and was kind to all creatures, both human and animal. He was a hard worker, proud of a job well done. He worked at the University of Utah mailroom, the Cuban Cigar Distribution Co., and was employed for several years at Smith's Food and Drug at 8th South and 9th East, walking a mile to and from work every day.

Christopher was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and of the Boy Scouts of America. Our unimaginable grief is tempered in knowing his pain is over, that he rests in a beautiful and peaceful place, and through the atonement of Jesus Christ, we will be together again.

Christopher is survived by his mother, Janice Matz Gilson, and stepfather, Gregory L. Gilson, his father, Kerry S. Matz, and stepmother Christine Carson Matz. Sisters, Celeste Rosell (Robert), and Charlyn Harmon. Stepsister, Angela Tolman (Wade), and stepbrothers Christopher J. Gilson (Mary) and Ryan J. Gilson (Paul), one niece and many nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 26, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Friends and family may gather at 10:30. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
