Edith Adelaide Stensrud

1923 ~ 2016

Edith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on November 30, 2016. She was 93 years old.

Edith was born in Stavanger, Norway on August 16, 1923, to Edvard and Bertha (Saghaug) Kloogh. In 1950, she immigrated to the United States with her family. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and visited her homeland often throughout the years.

Edith met Raymond B. Stensrud, Sr. at a Norwegian dance in Salt Lake City, UT and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1952. Mom and Dad spoke Norwegian in the home and gave their children the gift of being bilingual.

Mom cooked amazing Norwegian delicacies and often the aromas could be detected from outside the home. Her children learned to cook by watching her, mostly because Mom did not like a mess. She kept her home spotless and would ask her children when they returned from their friends' homes, "is their house cleaner than mine?" The answer was always, "no."

Edith was the last survivor of her birth family and looked forward to seeing them again.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Also, preceded in death by her loving husband whom she greatly missed.

Mom is survived by her sons, Leif Kloogh, Raymond, Jr. (Nancy), Kenneth (Sonja), Larry, Floyd (Tamara), her favorite daughter, Audrey (Ralph) Doggett, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Edith lived her last couple of years at The Wentworth assisted living facility in SLC. The family would like to extend their gratefulness for the care she received.

The family would especially like to thank Yvonne Mackenzie for her loving care and kindness. Yvonne became Mom's best friend in the last years of her life.

A graveside service will be held in Edith's honor at Elysian Burial Gardens (1075 East 4580 South, SLC, UT 84117) on Monday, December 5, 2016, at 12:00 p.m.
