Joan Eloise Geertsen Wood

1933 ~ 2019

Mom passed away peacefully in her home the evening of August 30, 2019. She was born on May 27, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Edwin Geertsen and Eloise Ensign. She was married to Valden Jay Wood in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on June 16, 1952.

She had a truly devoted and faithful belief in the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She lived her life with a set path and did not waver from it. Mom loved her flower and vegetable gardens, she was very meticulous in what she planted where and how she maintained them. All of her grandchildren (21) and great grandchildren (35) held a special place in her heart. Mom could tell you the birthdays and anniversaries of everyone she knew, this talent was very helpful for her love of genealogy and the family histories. She spent her life taking care of others whether they were family or friends. Mom was alone for 28 yrs after her beloved husband Valden passed away, even though she had many struggles, challenges and loss in her life, she overcame them with a positive attitude and a smile.

Her surviving son Kenneth(Loni) and daughter Valerie will miss her every day, as well as her grandchildren, great grandchildren and brother Robert (Linda Ann).

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Eloise, her husband Valden, sons James and Donald, daughter Debra, grandsons Nathan, Joseph and Jeremy. Siblings Marilyn, Paul, James and Linda Lee.

Funeral services will be held at the Larkin Mortuary located at 260 E. South Temple at 12p on September 7, 2019 with a viewing 1 hour prior. A viewing the night before will be held from 6p to 8p also at the Larkin Mortuary. Internment will be at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4335 w 4100 s.
