Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Verla Afton Brown Dye passed away April 26, 2018 at the age of 81, following many years of debilitating health conditions. Verla was born November 27, 1936 to Charles Elden Kingston and Afton Alice Ann Brown in Bountiful, Utah, the second of seven children.
Verla worked very hard from a young age all the while helping to raise her siblings and graduating high school one year early. She earned her high school diploma and cosmetology degree the same year and shortly thereafter at the tender age of 19, she opened her own beauty salon. Verla married her sweetheart, Richard Lavon Dye on May 2, 1959. They were blessed with 3 loving daughters, Verla Richaun Knight, Lori Ann Kennedy and Alyce Vivian Kennington. Verla was a shining light with unconditional love and compassion towards all and she fought fiercely for the underdog, often giving the shirt off her back. Verla's greatest accomplishment is her family to whom she devoted her entire life; gleaming with pride over her astonishing posterity of forty-five grandchildren, sixty-two great-grandchildren and eight on the way. Many years were dedicated to caring for her grandchildren in her home and she truly loved each and every one of them. Verla was a brave and noble warrior filled with love, beauty and righteousness. She was an excellent homemaker, beautician, seamstress, gardener and above all else, the most wonderful mother and grandmother in the whole world. Verla was lovingly cared for in her final years by Canyon Creek Assisted Living Center as well as many family members but most remarkably by her loving granddaughter Annalyce.
Verla is survived by her daughters Richaun, Lori and Alyce; 44 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and numerous family members and friends. Preceded in death by her husband Richard and grandson David.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd 2018 at 2:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy. Viewings will be held on Tuesday May 1st, 2018 from 6-8 PM and again Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 1-2 PM also at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Interment to follow services at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful.
