D.C. Mitchell

1943 ~ 2017

D.C. "Mitch" Mitchell passed into Eternity on Saturday, November 25, 2017 after fighting a brave fight with many health issues.

D.C. was born to Welton D.C. Mitchell and Edith Mae Cox on January 4, 1943 in Gilmer, Upshur County, Texas. He grew up in the Texas area until he was about 10 years old. His family then moved to southwest Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he graduated from Grant High School. At the age of 19 years old, he served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1962 to 1964.

Shortly after returning home from his mission, he met his sweetheart and love of his life at a Stake Halloween Dance in Oklahoma City. After nine months of dating, Mitch proposed and Angie said yes. DC was married to Angelia Kay Hickman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on July 6, 1965.

D.C. was an active member of the LDS Church and has served in many areas of responsibility. He was a Mission President serving the Indian nations in the panhandle of Oklahoma for several years. He has served in various callings; the High Council, the Bishopric, Ward Clerk, Scouts, Sunday School and Nursery to name a few. Recently, Mitch and Angie were privileged to serve in the Family and Church History Headquarters Mission. (Otherwise known as the "Happiest Zone on Earth.") in the Joseph Smith Building in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were able to serve for four years until their health declined.

Mitch had several employment opportunities but the one he loved the most was sharing his extreme talent in furniture repair and restoration. He owned his own business for several years in Colorado. In moving to Utah, he retired from the BYU Facility Plant area doing refinishing for all the campus.

D.C. loved life and always had a big smile. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed many diverse hobbies such as fishing, hunting and camping.

He loved being with family and friends on outings and created many cherished memories. He loved his country and wanted its flag waving in the breeze at our home on a regular basis reminding us on a daily basis the sacrifice of so many that made our freedoms great in this land. He also had a great love for his ancestors. During the later years of his life he and Angie did many genealogy trips finding ancestors for both of them. Together they have traced their families back many generations.

Mitch is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Angie Mitchell and his children, Terri Mitchell of Sandy, Utah, Davin (Cathy) Mitchell both in Tooele, Utah, Nathan (Erika) Mitchell in Wasilla, Alaska. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Brad Muir, Cody Stocking, and Ivee Mitchell and three great grandchildren, Jayda and Tavish Muir, Mayson Olsen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Lynn Mitchell.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff of the Cardiology unit at IMC in Murray, Utah and the wonderful staff at South Mountain Dialysis for their careful loving care during the past three years of his life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 1, 2017, at the Sandy Crescent North Stake Center located at 1050 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.
