I long to see you again one day. You gave me a home while pregnant and helped me raise Zackary. You are and will always be the mom I couldn't have. I miss you and love you forever

Obituary
Cherie Woodbury Hyde always kept the candy drawer stocked and her heart full of joy. After 90 years of spreading goodwill to those around her, she passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, with her family by her side, in Bountiful, Utah.
Cherie was born on December 16, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to T. Bowring (By) and Beulah (Bubbles) Woodbury. Cherie is survived by her sister, Wendy Cederlof, and her brother, Beau Woodbury. Cherie buried one child, David Stevens, Jr., and leaves behind six other children, whether by birth or by the sheer force of her love for them, and theirs for her. She is survived by Michelle Zwick (Jeff), Shauna Maxwell (Arthur), Matthew Stevens (Ann), and Christie Henggeler (Roger), children from her first marriage to David Stevens. She welcomed Lisa Wallace (Brian) and Rebecca Skordas (Greg) into her heart after marrying her soul-mate, Garold Ashel Hyde, her husband of 44 years. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, who adored her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David, and her granddaughter, Andrea.
Cherie grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Cherie attended BYU as a freshman and then later finished her bachelor's degree at the University of Utah while raising five children as a single parent.
Cherie’s kind and compassionate nature led her to a career in Special Education for several years in and around the Salt Lake area. Cherie married Gary in 1976 in the Salt Lake City temple. In 1983, she and Gary moved to Ventura, California, where they lived for 9 years while Gary worked for LDS Social Services. Later in life, the time Gary and Cherie spent together as missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, twice in England and at home as Family History, Addiction Recovery, and full-time Stake missionaries, was deeply special and rewarding for both of them. Her indomitable and generous spirit touched the lives of countless people. They also served together for many years in the Bountiful, Utah temple. Gary and Cherie lived to serve and forged a bond that death could not break.
Cherie loved listening to music, reading books, cooking for her family, camping with Gary, and serving others. She never met a stranger in her entire life. She greeted everyone, friend or stranger, with a warm smile and a hug. She had a gift for drawing people to her. She genuinely cared about other people's circumstances and feelings. She would listen to a person in need for hours and could always find a way to relate to them. She especially loved to hear other people’s love stories.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on June 5, 2026, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT, preceded by a brief viewing period from 9:30-10:30 am. Cherie will be laid to rest beside Gary at the Kaysville cemetery.
Our family would like to thank the nurses, medical technicians, and CNAs at Barton Creek in Bountiful for the loving care they gave her. Thank you for taking the time to treat her as a friend instead of a patient. We would also like to thank the hospice team at CNS for supporting and guiding us through Cherie’s last week.

Tributes
Cherie was one of the most wonderful human beings I’ve ever met. Always so positive, appreciative and nurturing of everyone. I will be forever grateful for her and her great husband, Gary, for their loving, Christ-like example.
Rest in peace, Cherie. And give Gary a hug for us!
The Ventura IV Ward was so blessed to have Cherie and Gary in our ward and serving in our youth organization. They were also fun to talk to. Two vivid memories we have involve activities with our church youth. One is of Gary sitting exhausted after cutting and loading firewood at College Park in Oxnard to raise funds for our trip to the Outdoor Camp at Rick's College. The other is of Cherie and Michelle shivering, wearing outdoor coats, their hair wet from the cold air moisture at Mandalay Beach Park. We were there for a Beach Cleaning service project. Both of these experiences shows what their focuses in life have been; service, sacrifice and working with youth. What extraordinary human beings there were. Great examples of how we should live our lives, overcoming life's rocky roads and most importantly of all, enduring to the end. Aloha Gary and Cherie
Cherie was the BEST!! Her smile and ability to make someone feel loved and cherished, like she did, is a rare gem!
I will never forget how she let my daughter come and interview her for a class assignment. She told her about her life and before they were finished she drew my daughter in. My daughter was going through a bitter divorce and Cherie was able to give her hope for a brighter future. I will always love Cherie for that!
She always let me show potential new move ins her apartment which was so beautiful but more importantly she was our Barton Creek endorser!! She knew just what to say about us...lol I thought we should put her on the payroll!! :)
We love her at Barton Creek and will forever miss her!!
Aunt Cherie, you lived with such compassion, kindness, and love. I always admired the beautiful life you and Uncle Gary shared, filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
I will never forget the day you and Gary took a walk with me, told me you loved me, and showed such warmth and understanding during a difficult time in my life. Your kindness meant more than you knew.
I will always cherish your love and the example you set.
May God bless your family and give you comfort and peace at this time of loss. Your family will be in our prayers.. I knew Cherie in Ventura as a young woman and young adult. She always had kind and uplifting words for me. She showed me love and light as the savior would. I learned so much from her and her testimony of Jesus Christ.
I often talk with my family about my memories when I lived in Ventura and she is always a bright star in those memories. I loved her smile and hugs.
