Sadly, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy (Dotty) Tasker Borg. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be truly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Dotty was born September 15, 1937 in the coal mining town of Kempton, Maryland, to Bertha and Cassel Tasker. She was the second of three girls: her older sister Betty Ann, and younger sister Janie. She describes her childhood as wonderful in that small town. Her favorite times were spent learning dance and eventually performing as a teenager at various local events. When the mine was closed in 1950 they moved 70 miles west to Clarksburg, WV where her dad owned a service station for several years. In 1954 the family moved to Salt Lake City, UT where they lived a few blocks from the temple. Dotty graduated from West High School in 1955 and attended BYU in Provo. She graduated in 1959 with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Her parents diligently made sure all 3 daughters were able to attend college, which they did.
During the summer of 1958 Dotty worked at Sears in the personnel department. She caught the eye of Richard (Dick) Borg, a handsome young man in the management training program. A few months later he invited her to the U of U vs BYU football game. What a shock to Dick and his Ute friends when Dotty stood up and cheered when BYU got a touchdown! But the attraction survived the rivalry, and they were married June 10, 1959 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. She began her teaching career that Fall in Springville, UT at Lincoln Elementary School.
The next 35 years of their life would revolve around Sears and the promotions Dad earned, which moved them to various locations in California. They began in Santa Rosa, CA where their first daughter, Kirstin D’Le was born in April 1962. What a joy to become parents! Not long after this they moved to Ventura, CA for two years. In 1966 they were transferred again to Fremont, CA, in the Bay Area, where their second daughter Danette Kara was born in November. Two sweet girls! Dotty loved being a mother and homemaker for her little family.
Fortunately, they spent 12 years in Fremont and had many great neighbors, made lifelong friends, and served in the small LDS Fremont First Ward. The “4 D’s”, as they were called, enjoyed going to the beach in Santa Cruz, visiting the Oakland Temple at least twice a year for stake conference, going to San Francisco for day trips, and the BIG redwood forests along the coast. And of course there were the annual pilgrimages to Disneyland, and to Salt Lake City to visit parents.
Fremont, CA was also where Dotty jumped back into her teaching career. She LOVED teaching first grade, where she could guide her students to become excellent readers. She also enjoyed making the kids’ lives at school a good place to be. Dick built “The Happy Place” for her to install in her classroom where kids could go and take a break and do something fun, but quiet. There were always good stories at the dinner table from Mom’s classroom.
Dotty also picked up a new hobby in Fremont. She learned how to make hats, (the 60’s) and later expanded to wedding veils. Dotty was very good and began to do it professionally. As hats faded from fashion she focused exclusively on bridal veils. Which led her and Dick to open a Bridal store, Dotty’s Bridal, in Poway, CA (north San Diego County) when they were living there, 1978-1985. Poway holds many memories for the Borg family; good friendships, school activities, graduations, pool parties, trips to the beach, ward activities and callings, but also the sadness of the passing of Dotty & Dick’s fathers.
Dotty & Dick made their final Sears transfer to Chicago, the headquarters. They bought a beautiful new home in the suburb of Hinsdale, IL surrounded by trees and roaming deer. It was in Chicago her one and only grandchild was born, Monica “D”. Dotty, or Nana as she was called, was such a fun and loving grandma. Monica spent many hours at their house and loved every minute and adventure they took her on.
Throughout their married life Dotty & Dick were active in all their LDS wards and stakes. Of course she was often a Primary teacher, but she didn’t mind. Dotty especially loved to feed the missionaries. She was a great cook and fed hundreds of missionaries over her lifetime. She and Dick even “sponsored” a few young men on their missions, particularly since they didn’t have a son. In 1996, after Dick retired from Sears, they served a full-time mission to Albuquerque, NM. It was in the small Estancia Branch teaching and supporting the ward leadership. The red “Cadillac Truck” served them faithfully and got them wherever they were needed.
Sadly, their daughters had moved to Utah for employment opportunities, so to be close to their family Dotty & Dick returned to Utah, settling in the Draper area. Dotty got to spend many wonderful hours with Monica, teaching her, playing make believe, and watching her grow and develop into a lovely young woman. Beginning in 2012 Dotty became a great-grandmother when Milo was born, and three more followed the next 11 years, Royce, Axel and Nora. She has treasured these sweet little youngsters and done so many fun things with/for them.
Dotty and Dick divorced in 2011. She remained in Draper, and Dick lived in Lehi with his daughter D’Le. Dick passed away in 2018. In 2021 Danette moved in with Dotty to help and eventually became her caregiver.
Dotty is survived by her daughters D’Le Borg and Danette Borg, granddaughter Monica Hansen (Mark), and 4 great-grandchildren: Milo, Royce, Axel, & Nora. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and former husband Dick Borg.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10:00 am. Larkin Sunset Garden, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah. Internment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

You were the most beautiful person inside and out. Some of my first memories of you are when Dad was ordained a High Priest. You and Dick took him out and bought him a suit. He wore that every Sunday until he quit attending church. It hung on him like 5 sizes to big. Then as I returned back to Draper 2nd ward we got to know each other better. I never knew a more put together gal. You always looked great in red. But your kindness and love extended to me and my family. The beautiful veil you made me and I will cherish. My children love the blankets you made them. Thank you for being a wonderful friend to myself and my family.
I am truly grateful for the friendship you and Mom had. She loves you so much. I am sure the two of you are having a grand reunion. Thank you for your Christ like example.
