Obituary

Eugenie Meyer Hatch, 93 passed away on September 22, 2026, in Riverton, Utah on the first day of fall. She was born March 16, 1933, in Kriwall-Hutte Ukraine, to Albert Berthold Meyer and Maria Subtschinski.

Eugenie met and married Benn, the love of her life, in Kassil, Germany while he was serving there for the U.S. military. They soon moved to the states and were sealed in the Salt Lake temple. They have two children; six grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Eugenie was a beautiful, loving and wonderful wife and mother. She was an avid hunter, rockhounder, and loved boating and fishing. She was a rummy shark and best cookie baker. She loved gathering her family together and baking her German treats for us. She was full of memories of her Germany childhood and loved sharing her stories with us in that German accent. She was always proud to wear the jewelry her husband made for her. She had a set for every outfit. She loved to garden and put up canning her harvest. Her jams and jellies were out of this world. If you could picture the perfect fifties housewife, that was mother. In a dress in the kitchen with her apron and pearls and a smile. She will be greatly missed by us here on earth.

She is survived by her son Raymond (Valerie); daughter Silvia (Larry); 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her Husband; her parents; 4 of 6 siblings; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Friday October 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah. Friends and family may call upon the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

Funeral services will be streamed and recorded via Zoom. For those wishing to watch the services, please click the “Watch Services” link above.

Tributes

I have known Eugenie and Ben for 11 years. Eugenie was always the talker; Ben, the silent support. In the first maybe 5 years Eugenie had the health problems/complaints, but when Ben had his heart problems their roles switched. From that point on I never heard hardly a word of health complaint from Eugenie. She was a concerned and careful caregiver of her Ben. Thought she knew he was close, it broke her heart when he died. She talked about her children, their spouses, the grandkids and great grandkids with me everytime I visited. It took time, but I mostly learned who everyone was, whose children they belonged to. She loved her family so very, very much. She loved talking on the phone and in person. Those were her happiest times in the day. In the last 3 years she told me every time I was there how good Raymond was to her, how good Valerie was to her, how good Sylvia was to her, and how good Larry was to her. She was very grateful for all that you did for her. I learned gratitude for the simple and consistent things because of her constant gratitude for what others did to help her, including the young boys next door who took out and brought in her garbage cans each week. I heard some of her youth in Germany during the war, but somehow the story always ended with meeting Ben and their time in Germany. She was a ready when the time came to leave this body behind and join her parents, and, of course, her Ben.
