  • On February 21st, 2021, our beautiful, loving and gentle mother Laurie Jo “Joey” Luke left us too soon, after suffering a severe stroke. Joey was born on July 6th, 1961 in Walnut Creek, California, to Steve Luke and Norma Rae Randle. She grew up in Salt Lake City, with her brother Adrian, where she graduated from East High school in 1979.

Joey had four sons who she loved deeply and unconditionally. Her family was her light, and she beamed with joy whenever she spoke of them. She opened her home to all her sons’ childhood friends, and always made them feel like they were family.

She loved music, movies, her extensive knick-knack and doll collection and always found joy in the little things in life . She had an infectious laugh that she often couldn’t control, leaving her unable to stop giggling long after the humorous moment had passed. She had a creative and poetic spirit that she wore on her surface.

She worked at the Utah State Tax Commission for over 20 years as a state tax collector. Although her quiet and gentle disposition wouldn’t seem to make her well suited for this role, she excelled and enjoyed her job greatly.

Joey was a loving grandmother, doting mother, adoring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed and loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her four sons: Jesse (Teashia), Jared, Jonah, and Journey; six grandchildren: Ignacio, Sheena, Elias, Xylia, Sadie, and Birdie; her father Steve (Joan) Luke; her brother Adrian (Angela) Luke and niece Andrea.

She was preceded in death by her mother and best friend Norma Rae Randle Hill and her granddaughter Hypatia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at 260 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah at Noon. A viewing will be held from 11 AM to Noon. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah at 1:30 PM.

    Guestbook/Condolences

Dear Joeys family, I worked at the Tax Commission for many years but didn’t get the privilege of knowing Joey extremely well. However, she always greeted me with a smile and shy hello whenever our paths crossed.and I really appreciated this kindness. My sympathies are with you during this sad time

To Joey's family. I am so sorry for your loss. I work at the Tax Commission. I would give your mom crossword puzzle special inserts from the New York Times. She had such a wicked sense of humor! I sure missed seeing her at work due to COVID.

My deepest condolences to Joey's (Rascals) beloved sons, her heart Jesse, Jared, Jonah and Journey, as well as all of Joey's family. I worked with Joey many years ago at the Tax Commission and she was kind to all. I considered Joey a dear friend and we kept in touch outside of work, until I lost her contact information. I have missed her very much through those years. However, there will come a time when we will all see her smile and hear her adorable giggle, as well as engage in her magnificent wit and loving embrace for eternity. May her great presence and eternal unconditional love for you comfort you. May you take comfort in prayer and the love of Jesus and Mother Mary as they surround you and are there to carry you with great love. Jesse, Jared, Jonah, and Journey your mother adored you always and that continues she will always be with you and the extensions of her beautiful heart her precious grandchildren. Please know that you are the most important part of your amazing Mom! You are all her living legacy. My love and prayers are with all of you.
    In Jesus through Mother Mary,
    Ursula
