Obituary

Kevin Leon Oleson, born November 17th, 1970, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Kevin was a beloved father, son, brother, godfather, and friend to many. He was also an entrepreneur, conservationist, and die-hard adventurer.

Those who were close to Kevin know him as a trailblazer and a visionary. He lived a full and passionate life, from founding Preventive Pest Control in 1997, to creating a wildlife conservation ranch in 2020; he always gave the utmost effort to whatever he set his mind to.

In his younger years, Kevin lived like the main character in an action movie. From exploring abandoned mineshafts in Reno, to snorkeling through rivers and lakes to find the best fishing holes, to setting door-knocking records in the pest control industry, to fearlessly riding his mountain bike through herds of bison in Yellowstone National Park, Kevin was always at the forefront, living life to the fullest and never looking back.

Kevin prioritized spending time with his people. Often the ringleader of grand family vacations and business retreats, he loved to show everybody a good time. Those who witnessed his dance moves can attest that he knew how to be the life of the party when called upon.

Many remember Kevin for his generosity: his willingness to help others without batting an eye. Whether he was giving a loan for a business venture, donating for a much-needed dental procedure, or just helping an acquaintance or a stranger with their day-to-day needs, Kevin never thought twice about sharing his wealth. He demonstrated the business slogan of Preventive Pest Control in his daily actions: “Enjoying Prosperity Through Sharing Prosperity”.

Kevin was a principled parent who taught his children the importance of hard work and authenticity from an early age. He was adamant about showing up for his children. He never missed a talent show, soccer game, or school event. He even volunteered to dress up as a leprechaun to lead the music class at his daughter’s elementary school for St. Patrick’s Day. In all things, his love for his children was clear.

As Kevin grew older, his love for the outdoors evolved into a passion for conservation. He dedicated himself to the creation of a wildlife refuge and fish-spawning ground in Colorado: a mission to restore the brown trout population of the Animas River. His final years were devoted to the stewardship of biodiversity on his ranch.

Kevin lived a life of vision, purpose, and contribution. He poured himself completely into everything he did, leaving nothing on the table. Kevin Oleson has inspired generations of young men to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams, from the late 1990s to the mid 2020s. Furthermore, he inspired us to be braver, bolder versions of ourselves, and push the limits of what we thought possible in our own lives. Kevin’s life stands as a beacon of “giving it your all”, and he will always be a symbol of hard work, passion, and authenticity to those he left behind.

We would like to honor Kevin in his passing and express our tremendous gratitude for the ways in which he blessed our lives.

A viewing will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, July 7th, from 9-10:30 am, following which a funeral service will be held from 11am-Noon. The service and viewing will be held at 12998 S 1300 W, Riverton, UT 84065.

Tributes

I remember Kevin as my fun uncle. He’s apart of some of my earliest core memories, including trips to Disneyland, Lagoon and Hawaii. Like me, he was fearless at lagoon and I remember one lagoon trip we did the superman once and the slingshot twice. As a kid, I thought that was the coolest thing and a memory I’ll always treasure.
I always admired the friendship that he had with my dad. They not only built the business from the ground up, but they formed a brotherhood. I’ll never forget the two of them laughing until they could barely breathe and daring each other to do the craziest things in Disneyland. I’ll always appreciate the role that Kevin played in helping build something that continues to bless our family.

Although we haven’t been close for years, I was so saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to everyone who loved Kevin - especially Campbell, who will always be one of my best friends. I’m praying that he and the family can find strength, comfort and peace in the days ahead.

May you rest in the arms of The Savior.

Kevin was always welcoming and kind to me. His generosity was part of who he was, always willing to open his home, or help make something special happen for the people he cared about. I have many great memories of summers in his pool and time in Alta and Durango that I will always cherish. He had this great energy and passion for everything he did, and he shared these joys and passions with us.

Campbell has been a close friend since high school. I’ve watched him through many phases of life and seen him grow into the man he is today. I see the best qualities of Kevin in Campbell, his passion, his vigor, and his drive for new experiences and adventure in life. Campbell continues to grow and become stronger every day, into a man Kevin would be very proud of.

Sending so much love to Campbell and those close to Kevin. He’s touched a lot of lives and has had a big impact on both my husband and me. He will be missed.
