Kittie Laurece Litster Cowdell

1932 ~ 2023

Kittie Laurece Litster Cowdell, 91 years young, graduated with honors from this mortal life on September 17, 2023 in St George, Utah. Kittie was born Thursday, March 10, 1932, in Vernal, Utah to Harold Campbell Litster and Edna Bell Wilcoxson. She married the love of her life, Keith Everard Cowdell, on Saturday, June 17, 1950, and gave birth to five children. Fourteen years after their wedding, the family of seven became eternal when they knelt in white around the altar of the Salt Lake City Temple. Kittie was excited to finally be sealed together forever by the Holy Priesthood and authority of God. She was a valiant member, and true Saint, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Kittie served faithfully for over 25 years in the St. George, Utah Temple, linking families together forever. She loved genealogy and wrote many family histories. She served in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary and Library.

Kittie was an example of goodness in all her relationships. She was a beautiful daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and neighbor. She made sure not to pass away before saying, “Goodbye. I Love You.” She lived great and endured gracefully and honorably to the end of her mortal sojourn.

She taught through inspiring examples and kind words. Through her example, she taught to never criticize, condemn, or complain; but to be kind, gentle, and caring, toward everyone. She taught to serve one another with love. She taught that no one is perfect, so strive to become like Christ. She taught to “do your best” daily by developing your own God-given talents.

She loved family get-togethers and especially enjoyed beating the pants off of everyone in card games. She often changed the rules mid game; but she never cheated. She loved to laugh more than she loved to win, and she loved eating treats as much as she loved to laugh. For her, games were all about creating fun family memories.

Holidays were always a celebration in her home. She loved Thanksgiving and Christmas especially. She hosted many Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays, full of food, fun, and family. She absolutely loved time spent with her family. She watched home movies and ate ice cream (if she could just get someone else to "dip it") every chance she got.

She loved children and was the neighborhood “candy grandma”. Her reputation was legendary as the “candy lady.” Many children came by almost daily to trick-or-treat at her door. She handed out goodies all year long.

For several years she suffered from dementia. She was often frustrated at not being able to remember things or communicate how she once did. However, she never forgot who her children were, and she always greeted them with her beautiful smile and warm hug. During the last few years, Kittie’s daughter,

Kittie’s family expresses deep gratitude to all those who cared for her at Spring Gardens and Zion's Way Hospice. She was loved deeply by those who served her. Everyone at Spring Gardens knew her name and said, “Hi, Kittie!” whenever they saw her. She returned their greetings with her beautiful smile and welcoming hello.

Her family expresses their gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern, and support during this heartfelt time. She was thoroughly enjoyed by all throughout her mortal ministry. She will certainly be missed.

Until we meet again Momma, we love you.

Kittie is survived by Judy Lin Fisher, daughter (spouse-Frank I Fisher) of Washington, Utah; Kim Leon Cowdell, son (spouse-Julie Ann Thomas Cowdell) of St George, Utah; Mark Paul Cowdell, son (spouse-Holly Richards Cowdell) of Alpine, Utah; 15 Grandchildren, 54 Great-grandchildren and 13.9 Great-Great Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Kraig James Cowdell (1970), her husband, Keith Everard Cowdell (2012), and her daughter, Loraine Kay Cowdell (2022)

Oh how much we will miss this great lady! My aunt laurece was one of the most precious, kind wonderful people I’ve ever known just to be in her presence was fun, loving and amazing. She was always up for a card game or other games anything that involved family she loved ice cream and other kinds of desserts always there is always a place at the table for guests! She was truly happy and content with doing whatever she could to make other people OK. I know that she’s up in heaven with all her relatives and family that are up there and just having the time of her life her and uncle Keith are together again and that’s really what she wanted, I love to you all you’re the best love Shirlene and Greg

What a beautiful tribute written about your sweet Mom. The legacy of happiness, laughter and fun in your family. Reading about her love for ice cream brought back a memory, many years ago. One time Loraine was talking about her with fondness and love, saying now she, (her mom) likes to put a scoop of ice cream in her rice Krispies for breakfast. Cute. I bet they are enjoying heaven together.

May God bless you Judy, Kim, and Mark. ❤️

Sad when I heard that Laurece is not here with us although I know from time to time, sons and daughters and grandchildren will feel her presence and this will bring great comfort to those who mourn her passing. I know that Laurece is having the time of her life and this will continue - think of it, one great moment of happiness after another. You are missed, Laurece, but we feel blessed by knowing of your great joy you are experiencing now.

What a wonderful Aunt you are, you always made time for me and my family. And I will miss you a lot. When Kaleb was just a little guy he also wanted to give you hugs. And you always told him. There is nothing better than a Kaleb hug. You raise a wonderful, beautiful, and fun family. We had some great times together as family. We love you and your family. See ya later alligator. Give grandma big hugs from me.
