Obituary
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Linda Sue Dye, lovingly known as “Sue” to those who knew and loved her. Sue passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 2, 2026, after courageously battling pancreatic cancer for more than two years.
Sue was born on March 24, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Joan and John Varley. Her mother later married Clifton Guy Scott, who joined in raising Sue throughout her life. Sue was a fraternal twin and the elder of the two. The twins shared a close and enduring bond throughout their 79 years.
Sue had two daughters from her first marriage. She later married DeLoy Dye on August 22, 1988, and the couple were sealed in the Taylorsville Utah Temple on December 6, 2024.
Shortly after their marriage, Sue and DeLoy purchased a boat. Despite Sue’s fear of the water and her inability to swim, they spent many days boating, with Sue always fully secured in her life vest—one so snug it felt as though even the jaws of life couldn’t remove it. Many treasured memories were made on the water, including the day Sue bravely rode the water banana, conquering her fears.
Sue retired from the Utah Department of Transportation in 2009, having spent much of her career in the Comptroller’s Office. During her time at UDOT, she formed friendships that remain strong and meaningful today.
In 2002, Sue and DeLoy purchased six acres in Hanna, Utah, where they spent years camping and improving the property together. In 2013, they built a cabin that they designed themselves. Summers were spent there hosting family reunions and creating lasting memories. The nearby Uintah Mountains provided easy access to snowmobiling and ATV adventures, activities that Sue greatly enjoyed.
Sue loved sewing, quilting, and cross-stitching. Her passion for sewing led her to create clothing and blankets for her children and grandchildren. Later, she expanded her talents to embroidery, where her exceptional attention to detail truly shone.
Sue loved to laugh, and her laugh was loud, joyful, and contagious—bringing happiness to everyone around her.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, DeLoy Dye; their children, Chalise (Clair) Provost and Robyn Scott, Tonya (Ryan) Yamauchi, Michael Dye, Kevin (Joyce) Dye, and Susan Petty; their grandchildren, Zachary (Jessi) Scott, Mackelle (Darren) Hendrix, Jordan Pope, Breanne Yamauchi, Riley (Ella) Yamauchi, Kelsey (Matt) Richins, Reagan (Corbyn) Anderson, Rhett Yamauchi, Cody and Kennedy Petty; Jason (Tricia) Provost, Ryan (Michelle) Provost, and Jake (Melanie) Provost; their greatgrandchildren, Kai, Miya, and Theia Scott, Riggins and August Hendrix, Ren and Kyra Richins, and Ryan Yamauchi Jr; Ben (Sydney) Provost, Emma (Andrew) Thomas, and Nate Provost, Parker, Kash, Kinzie, and Shaylee Provost, and Kate and Millie Provost; her siblings Billy, Karen, Ann, and Guy; and her nieces and nephews, Kelley, Molly, Charlie, and Hayley.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Joan and ‘Clif’ Scott, and John Varley; her sister, Vicki; and her nephew, Robert.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Garden, 1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, Utah. A viewing and funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the LDS meetinghouse located at 4950 S 1950 W, Taylorsville, Utah. The viewing will be held from 9:30–10:45 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside dedication will follow at 2:30 PM at Larkin Sunset Garden, Sandy, Utah.

Tributes
To the Family of Sue Dye. Our Condolences to all. So sorry, to hear of you loss. May she now rest in Peace.
Sue has been my best friend for many years. She and I had, among other things, a standing telephone appointment every Monday to discuss our ongoing adventures in sewing and machine embroidery. It was always such a joy to talk with her and share laughter together. Sue was a very talented seamstress and embroiderer. We attended many classes and events together and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing our latest discoveries and projects.
Even as Sue became more exhausted with her treatments and declining health, she continued to look forward to what she would create next.
I am so grateful for her wonderful husband, DeLoy, and her special daughter, Robyn. They have taken such good care of her with unwearying patience and love.
I will miss you terribly, Sue, but I look forward to seeing you again and sharing more sweet times together. I will always be grateful for our wonderful friendship.
Rest in Peace Susie
Our sincere condolences to
Deloy, Chalise, and Robyn and all grandchildren

So sorry to hear about Your loss. I worked with Sue at UDOT a while back. She was very kind and helpful. Also, her husband, DeLoy was my mentor at UDOT. May she rest in eternal peace.
I am very blessed to have had Sue as my very good friend for many years. We were very close during our working years at UDOT, in the Comptrollers Office. Sue was always very specially to me. We spent most work breaks laughing and sharing life experiences.
I loved her laugh. It was contagious. I loved spending time with her. She never complained, she only accepted life as it was and graciously did her best.
I am going to miss her. I am thankful for all the happy times we spent together.
I wish the best to her family. I know how much she loved you all!

Sue was my first boss at UDOT in the early 90s. Over the years, she became like a second mom to me. She helped me through some difficult breakups and was the one who encouraged me to apply for the Comptroller position.
I was heartbroken to hear of her passing. I loved her dearly and will always remember her laugh, her advice, and the love and support she gave so freely. It was clear at her service how deeply she was loved by her daughters and grandchildren. My heart goes out to her family. May she rest in eternal peace.
I became friends with Sue while I was working at the Viking Sewing Gallery in Draper and she would come in and ask questions and share her lovely talent with us and show the items she made and just fun talking an becoming friends.
