Obituary
Marjorie Arlene Allen (Webb), 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from complications following surgery for a broken leg.
Marjorie was born on March 11, 1941, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Orrin Redfield Webb and Arlene Lillie Clayton Webb. During her childhood, Marjorie experienced a unique and adventurous upbringing as her father served in the Army Air Force. Her family traveled extensively throughout the United States, and she also had the opportunity to live overseas in Okinawa, Japan. These experiences gave her an appreciation for the world around her and shaped the curious and compassionatespirit she carried throughout her life.
Eventually, the Webb family settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Marjorie attended Olympus High School. Utah became the place where she built her life, formed lasting relationships, and made many meaningful contributions.
Marjorie pursued a remarkable career in science at the University of Utah, where she worked for many years as a genetic research technician. She contributed to important genetic research, including work alongside Mario Capecchi, a Nobel Prize-winning scientist. Her dedication and expertise led to her name appearing on several medical journal publications, and her accomplishments were also recognized in a newspaper feature. Later, Marjorie became a member of Utah’s first in-vitro fertilization team. She found tremendous fulfillment in helping couples achieve their dreams of becoming parents and cherished the knowledge that her work helped create families.
Marjorie had a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. She loved beautiful clothes, jewelry, figurines, and art, but her greatest passion was for dolls—she lovingly cared for a collection of several hundred collectible dolls. Yet the greatest loves in her life were not things, but the companionship of her beloved dogs: Chelsea, Heather, Rainbow, Misty, Sunny, Breezy, Suzie, and Sage. They brought her comfort, happiness, and unconditional love.
Marjorie was fortunate to meet the love of her life, Ruth Ann Clawson, at a party they both attended more than 40 years ago. Together, they shared many wonderful years filled with love, adventure, and friendship. They traveled throughout the country in their motor home, welcomed friends and family into their lives, and created a beautiful life together built on companionship and shared memories.
Although Marjorie and Ruth Ann did not have children of their own, Marjorie’s friends, siblings, niece, and nephews were among the greatest joys of her life. She treasured her family and the special bonds they shared.
In later years, Marjorie faced many health challenges, and she spent her final four years at St. Joseph’s Villa nursing home where she received loving care and support from staff and family. Marjorie deeply appreciated all who helped her continue to live as full and meaningful a life as possible. She loved and appreciated every visitor who took the time to share their kindness and companionship.
During this time, Marjorie’s faith became a sustaining source of strength and comfort. She would want special thanks expressed to her spiritual advisor, Ray Christensen, for providing guidance and support through many difficult moments.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Orrin Redfield Webb and Arlene Lillie Clayton Webb.
She is survived by her siblings, Cheryll Killian, Galen Webb, and Kristin Eichers (Ron); and her niece and nephews, Lisa Vadnais, Mike Reed, Nathan Webb, and Jordan Zaharias, and many great nieces and nephews.
Marjorie will be remembered for her brilliant mind, her deeply compassionate heart, her love of beauty, her devotion to those she loved, and the many lives she touched through her work, friendships, and family. She leaves behind a legacy of discovery, kindness, faith, and love that will continue through all who knew and cherished her.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 9:30 am- 10:30 am at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 am at Elysian Gardens Cemetery, 1075 East 4580 South, Millcreek, Utah.
Marjorie was one of the most kind and generous people we knew, always helping friends and family, or those in need. She contributed to many charities including her favorites, The World Wildlife Fund, Best Friends Animal Society, and the ASPCA, In lieu of flowers, Margie would appreciate a donation to a charity of your choosing.
