Rick and I share a 6 decade friendship. He has been my "go-to guy" through all those decades. Where do I "go to" now?

Obituary
Our loving brother, uncle, great uncle and friend left this earthly existence at the young age of “level 66”. Rick is born the fourth of six children and the first of us siblings to join Mom and Dad for a rejoiceful union in Heaven.
He carried an expanded knowledge for many subjects and interests. He held a gun dealers license and sold guns and his reloaded ammo at the gun shows for many years. He was a certified ham radio operator-handle KB7VVB, tinkered with lots of electronics, dabbled in photography in high school, and enjoyed being outdoors hunting and camping with his family and friends.
Anyone who knew our brother knows he was never short on conversation. He carried a wealth of knowledge thicker than the dictionary. As siblings we enjoyed catching up on long drives as he made the time pass quickly. His nieces and nephews were fascinated with asking him questions and attempting to keep up with his quick as lighting change of topics before you even realized it.
During his lifetime he worked at Big Ray’s Drive-In and Desert Book. He studied at Ricks College and Steven Henager College. Many Christmas holidays were spent helping mom with the chocolates and candy. Our biggest chuckle is his passion for being “retired a long time”. He also served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1979-1981.
Rick did care deeply in his own ways even though he wasn’t always able to express it. As a family we want to express gratitude to his friend and cousin Conley Thompson, and his lifetime friends who built memories and celebrated his birthdays yearly; Mark Pantelakis, Jerry Christensen, Todd Burrows, Larry Boynton, Carey Roberts, Jim Handy, Roger Thompson, Eric Freebarin and Trent Williams (deceased).
Rick is survived by siblings: Gaylene Johnson, Randy (Laura) Johnson, Lori Mastro, Sherr, Ryan (Lori) Johnson. Seven nephews, three nieces and twenty-one great nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents; Ray Rawlins Johnson (1987), Norma Jean Kunz (2021) and nephews; Derek Ray Johnson (2013) and Alex Michael Johnson (2025).
In celebration of his life please come dressed comfortable and in happy colors.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, located at 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd (10600 S), Sandy, UT. 84092. A viewing will be held prior beginning at 9:30am. Procession to Paradise, Utah will follow with interment and graveside services.

Tributes
Rick always greeted me with a ready handshake and friendly smile. He was a joy to be around.
Rest Brother, say Hi to Derek and Big Ray for me!
I’m very sorry to hear this , I know it’s a great loss ‼️
I hope everyone finds comfort and peace at this time . 🙏
I’m going to miss you Rick. We spent a lot of time together playing behind the school and in the fields.
I loved our hunting trips we took with Rick to Beaver. I could always count on Rick to find a delicious snack to share with me in one of his many pockets and limitless conversations while we were four wheeling for hours with Mark in his Jeep.
With the big 55 years we’ve been friends, the stories of Joy & challenges of life have kept friendship alive. Friends are eternal, you see this now. Love your friend & brother, Mark my words😎
May God strengthen you and keep you and your family in Peace and comfort with your loving memories of Ricky.
Many Blessings ,
With our deepest Sympathies,
Teresa and Family
