Stephen Shobe passed away on April 11, 2024. He was born November 8, 1950 in El Monte, California.
While Stephen’s last years were surrounded by his family, his childhood was not always ideal. The struggle of being shuffled about in the foster care system gave him tremendous empathy and compassion for wayward souls, in all walks of life. While it is often said that someone would “give their last dollar,” it was the literal truth for Stephen. On multiple occasions he emptied his pockets to give hope to those who needed it most.
Stephen was an avid sports fan. His knowledge was endless, from the Rams latest stats, to the exact time of the Dodgers next three games. While he loved professional sports, his favorites were watching his daughter growing up on the basketball court and then later his granddaughter on the softball field. He could often be caught at tournaments proudly cheering them on.
Stephen loved his granddaughters “way up to the sky.” He has seen every Disney on Ice, watched countless movies (babe the pig being his favorite), and visited so many parks, just to see their faces light up. Although, his favorite was always taking the girls out to dinner. He loved eating, catching up and playing hundreds of games of tic-tac-toe and making sure they got dessert.
Stephen had a deep and profound love of his savior. He continued to study his scriptures avidly throughout his last years. His bible is well worn and markedly read. This testament of Stephen’s faith and devotion will be treasured by his family.
Stephen is preceded in death by his mother, Carol Brunger, father William Shobe, brother Michael, nephew Joey and dearest friend Steve. He leaves behind a daughter Stephanie Stewart, Son in Law Kyle Stewart and his beloved granddaughters Ashlynn, KyleeMae and DeLyla. As well as his sisters and brother, Dennis, Robin, Piper, Christine and Rebecca and his many nieces and nephews.
