Listen to Obituary

Susan Fugal Butler, 69, passed away on January 9, 2026, at her home in Taylorsville, Utah from complications of pancreatic cancer. Susie was born on December 15, 1956, to Jeniel Judd and Grant Kay Fugal in American Fork, Utah. Susie loved growing up in a large family and always considered her siblings her best friends. She married and was sealed to Jerald Michael Butler on January 7, 1995 in the Jordan River Utah Temple. Michael was and is perfect for her and they were dedicated to and protective of each other for 31 years. They look forward to eternity together. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great love for temples and the scriptures. She served as a full-time missionary in the Italy Milan Mission from 1978 to 1979. Serving a mission was a goal she had from childhood.

Susie graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1975. She attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where she studied music and business. She worked for various companies over the years as an executive assistant or office manager and felt appreciated by her employers for her talents and contributions. It was a very rewarding career. Along with her sisters, Susie was taught to sew by her mother and was able to make her own clothing from her early teenage years. She later ventured into sewing for others and over the years designed and made everything from simple articles to pageant costumes and wedding dresses. Susie loved choral music and sang in choirs from grade school to college. She sang in The Mormon Youth Chorus and then for twenty-one years in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. Between her time as a singer and subsequent years as a full-time employee in the Choir office, she was involved with the Tabernacle Choir for 36 years, which she considered a great blessing and responsibility.

Susie is survived by her husband, his children Jeremy (Lindsay) Butler, Brendon Butler, Daniel Butler, Sarah Butler Greyhue, Holly Butler Martineau, and Timothy Butler; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; siblings Lee Fugal, Ruth Fugal, Jeanne Fugal Holdaway, Peggy Fugal Andersson, Ray Fugal, Brig Fugal, Karen Fugal Harbold, Kent Fugal, Lila Fugal Biggs, and Donna Fugal Thorne. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Richard Fugal.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, at Bennion East Stake Center, 5980 S 1300 W, Taylorsville, Utah from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Saturday, January 17, from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Funeral services will be held January 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be in the Marion Cemetery in Summit County, Utah.

The services will be livestreamed and can be viewed through the following link: https://zoom.us/j/98100544452

Guestbook/Condolences

Susie was such a beautiful soul inside and out. Always kind and fun and a pleasure to be around at choir.

She was an amazing aunt and such a great role model too! Sad she’s gone but we knows she lives and works hard on the other side. Sorry for your loss and ours.

My fondest memory of Susie was her love of singing. I remember when Ruth told me she was taking voice lessons. Her musical talent changed from then on. I loved to hear her sing in church. When she joined the Tabernacle Choir it was so fun to watch during conference to see a glimpse of Susie.

When Kaitlyn and Spencer got married being together with the Fugal Family was wonderful. It was then I realized Susie had found the man of her dreams.

Thanks to the entire Fugal family for the many memories of my childhood shared with you all.
God bless you at this time of sorrow. Susie will be remembered and missed oh what a wonderful reunion she is having with her family on the other side of the veil.

Kind regards at this time of Sorrow.

Susie was almost my twin. Both born in December 1956. Named Susan the same day. Probably baptized the same day. Our parents were best buddies, and we were friends. I loved singing, too. I was so excited when she got married. So sorry she graduated so early.

The world lost a noble and great person when Susie passed away. She was such a great friend and mentor to all. I loved being able to learn from her, discuss a litany of different subjects and feel blessed to have been her colleague for 20 years.
She was faithful, kind, uber-dependable and I'll miss our lunches and friendship.
She is having a wonderful reunion with her mom and dad and so many family members and friends.

Susie was my 2nd alto Tabernacle choir section leader when I joined in 2001. She was so kind and soft spoken and carried out her responsibilities with great care. As she later served the choir in administrative roles I admired her work ethic and commitment. I consider her a good friend and wish her husband and family the Lord’s loving comfort at this time.

Susie, without fail, treated me as a dear friend, even though I did little in her presence to deserve such. When we did "bump" into one another, she would visit with such joy that I would leave the moments knowing why it was so easy to love her.

Susie was a real jewel. She was in my young woman’s as mia maid. From then on it was always a treat to visit with her.

- Catherine B. Spencer

Susie was a fun-loving roommate. She was always kind and helpful. Susie took a lot of time and effort to make my wedding dress. So glad we were able to spend some time together in July in Pleasant Grove. Heartfelt condolences to Susie’s husband and family.
