Protestant and Christian funeral services in Utah

Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Adventist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and non-denominational — the service follows your congregation.

The day follows your tradition

A simple wooden cross, a closed book, and white hydrangeas in a quiet church

Utah has a wide Christian community beyond the two churches people name first. If you are Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Episcopal, United Church of Christ, Adventist, Pentecostal, Evangelical, or part of a non-denominational congregation, the funeral should sound like your church, not like a generic chapel script.

Your pastor leads the worship. We do the care, the visiting hours, the schedule, and the cemetery or the crematory. Bring us the order of service your church uses. We will not replace it with ours.

What these services tend to share

The liturgy differs. The care around it does not have to be reinvented.

A service led by your pastor

Scripture, hymns, a sermon, and words from the family are the usual shape, whether the book in the pew is the Book of Common Prayer, a Lutheran funeral rite, or an order the pastor wrote that week. We print and prepare only what the church asks.

Visitation

Some congregations expect a viewing. Others want a closed casket or no casket in the room at all. We set the hours and the room to match the pastor and the family, at your church or in our chapel.

Burial, cremation, or both parts of one farewell

Episcopal and Lutheran families often want a committal at the grave. Many Evangelical and non-denominational families choose cremation and a memorial. Either can be done with reverence. A veteran in the family can also receive military honors.

Music and memory

Hymns, a choir, a recorded song, photographs, a quilt, a motorcycle club standing at the back — we make room for the things that make this person recognizable. The point of the gathering is the life, inside the faith that shaped it.

What we take off the family's list

  • A meeting with you and, when you want, your pastor, so the church and the funeral home are not planning two different days.
  • Visitation at our Salt Lake City, Sandy, or Riverton chapels, or a setup crew at your church.
  • Burial at a parish cemetery, a city cemetery, or Larkin Sunset Lawn and Larkin Sunset Gardens.
  • Cremation at our own crematory when that is the choice, with a memorial that still belongs to your church.

Where the service can be held

Hold the service at your church or in one of our chapels. A graveside committal can follow the same day, or a memorial can be held after cremation.

Questions families ask

Can you hold a Christian funeral if we are not Latter-day Saint or Catholic?

Yes. We serve Protestant, Evangelical, and non-denominational families, and we take direction from your pastor rather than from a single house style.

Will the service be at our church?

It can be. We also have chapels in downtown Salt Lake City, at Larkin Sunset Lawn, in Sandy, and in Riverton if the church building is not available.

Do you work with Episcopal, Lutheran, Baptist, and non-denominational churches?

Yes. Those congregations, and Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Adventist, and Evangelical churches, each have their own way. We follow the one you belong to.

Can we include military honors?

Yes. If your loved one served, we can arrange military honors and coordinate with the Utah Veterans Cemetery in Bluffdale when that is the burial place.

Any hour

Tell us what your faith requires.

Call, including in the middle of the night. We will ask what your clergy and your family need, and we will arrange the day around that.
